What did you do with your flock today?

Where did the black pug come in Please tell me
Long story long...
We got The Fanged Monkey when he was about 2yrs old. He was bought on impulse by a young girl who saw him, thot he was cute & took him home. She had no idea about the little quirks pugs have & he became an inconvenience for her.

She took the dog to her BFs house, but when she broke up with her BF she left the dog there until he finally complained. She then took the dog & dropped it off at her mothers house until she eventuality complained too.

She found a new BF & moved the dog over there, but they both worked all day, partied all night & the dog was left alone with a bowl of food & water & a doggy door. 🙁

Monkey has chronic ear infections & living behind a small airport was making him nuts. He was so skinny & has a trick hip that their vet mistakenly told them would need surgery. The new BF decided he couldn’t tolerate the snoring/snorting/backward sneezing/face wiping that comes with pugs & they put him up for adoption.

I don’t know how I ended up seeing the ad. I wasn’t looking for pug ads (at least not consciously) but there he was. I called them & we had a long chat. I told them I wouldn’t pay money for him, but that I was a stay at home mom with 3 animal crazy homeschool kids. They wanted the money, but they wanted him to have a good home too. They were going out of town for the weekend & I asked them to think it over. 4 days later the kids & I were in the car heading to AZ to bring Monkey back to his forever home. We spent the night with my brothers family & he was insanely ecstatic to be around so many people. He literally never stopped running circles from sleeping bag to sleeping bag all night. We stopped at a petsmart, got him fitted for his brand new harness & some treats & toys. He was loving it!

He had lived in 4 houses in 2yrs by the time we got him. He had no idea how to play or what toys were. He had issues, but nothing we haven’t been able to work around. He decided Frankie was his human & he never leaves her.

He is crazy smart. The smartest pug we’ve ever had.

One of my faverolles laid their first egg yesterday! Here it is next to one of my quail eggs. It looks a little smaller IRL than it does in the picture.

With some. . . Encouragement, Nikki climbed into my lap, and stayed there for a few minutes. She still tries to chomp my fingers, but she’s otherwise really chill. I had to clean her toe up, and she let me hold her in one hand without squirming at all. :love

First eggs can be so funny looking!

I introduced my new birds to watermelon yesterday. Everyone was really confused, and my two youngest pullets tried to only eat the green part. :lau

I don’t think Harriet has ever had snacks before, so I’ve also been introducing her to different kinds. She’s tried watermelon, dried mealworms, and some sort of party mix. So far the watermelon has been her favorite, and she even made what sounded like a purring sound the second time she ate it. 😍
I’ve noticed she makes frustrated chirps whenever she can’t find what she’s looking for, not that I can blame her. I haven’t decided if it sad, or cute. Probably a mix of both. XD

Today I finally put up bird netting around three sides of the run and I’ve decided to use my dog pen on the door side so they don’t make a run for it when I open the door. Found some sturdy, straight, good sized sticks for a roosting corner under my shade tarp. All 8 sat on it within an hour of me putting them up. Texas summer is this staring this weekend with 100+ for five days. So I’m trying to give them as much shade as possible. They’ve been upgraded to hanging galvanized steel waterer and feeder so hopefully that’ll help keep the water cool in the shade. I ordered a second clam shell coop since the one I have only fits 4, on back order of course. Also I’ve been trying with moderate success to train them to walk up the ramp at night. And lastly Jade sat on my head when I was visiting the chickens this morning.

I’ll definitely be wearing a sleeved shirt next time.
