What did you do with your flock today?

My birds all got some tree branches. They were really excited.

Iris wanted different snacks, but once he saw how much his girls liked the leaves, he changed his mind.

Molly stopped playing once she saw me sit down. It’s nice to know she likes me more than she likes leaves. XD

Watson had to follow me to a different coop to see what I was doing. She always has to be in the middle of everything. :3

And once again, these two wouldn’t stay still enough for me to get a good picture.

I let them out, then checked on them constantly during the day because we’ve had two hawk attacks in the last two weeks had I’m in Mama Mode, then I went out in the afternoon and moved the electric fence. I took out the fifty foot fence and made the remaining fifty foot and hundred foot into a smaller pen. I took the fifty foot and sectioned off part of the pen for my ducks, who can’t be with the female chickens. I dragged some pallets up to make little huts and safe spaces from the hawk (I’m doing more of that tomorrow). Then I took the three 6 week old babies to the garden to play. After that it was dark so I locked up!

Tomorrow dad and I will be putting in T-posts and stringing netting above the pen for hawk protection. I am now only going places after dark, and the day we got our Christmas tree they stayed safe in the coop until I got back. Yesterday I went to the store and paid my younger sisters with lollipops to take shifts (I was gone less than an hour) staying out with them. The pressure and stress is too much! Hopefully this will help.

Your birds are so pretty!

Oh my birds LOVE tree branches, and we always put our Xmas tree out there for a bit when we’re done with it. They are forest animals you know, so underbrush is their natural habitat.

It’s always nice when a bird comes for pets and snuggles! :D

That blue grey one (ombré, dark on her head and gets lighter) looks like Nessa would have. I wish I could have seen her grow up :( she was such a pretty girl

Sounds like you’ve been busy! I’m sorry you’ve had so many hawk attacks. Hopefully the netting will keep the hawks away. :hugs

Thank you! Unfortunately I couldn’t get pics of them all. :( Puff Puff and Papa are going through a pretty nasty molt right now, and the others are too sketchy to tolerate a phone in their space. I was able to get a picture of Beigie though, and that never happens. :D

I don’t think any of my birds like Christmas trees. That being said, due to fire hazards we have to dispose of the tree pretty quickly. Maybe this year I can try with some smaller branches.

It really is! I’m really lucky that most of my chickens love hugs (80% of the time Iris crows it’s because he want love XD)but it’s not often one of them will choose me over snacks. :3

That’s Geralt, my sapphire gem. I’m sorry for your loss.:hugs Yeah, she was. :(

My flock is probably angry at me today. Trying to keep them locked up in order to train the pullets to lay in the 'coop' (more like a horse stall), but theres definitely not enough space for how many I have. They sleep there every night but are used to getting to free range all day. Yesterday I put lots of food and water in there plus more nesting boxes and fixed a broken roost to make inside more appealing, but it is really weird being out in the yard without a zillion chickens running around. I keep checking on them to make sure there isnt any fighting.
