What did you do with your flock today?

Been busy this week trying to get ready for Christmas and keeping the kitten a secret. I am pet sitting for some ladies and so I’ve been bringing the kids with me so they are in the house as little as possible until Christmas haha. Miyuki is just a sweet girl, but also independent and a bit sassy :) She likes to “help” while I’m working and has already called a coworker friend of mine and IMd several times. She isn’t the best speller though! 😆😆 I think she’s gonna fit right in. I thought Koda would be the dog that we had to be cautious of, but it turns out the Frenchie is much more of an issue. She is a little bit crazy and keeps trying to bite at her. Miyu has so far handled it, but Chloe has gotten a lot of spray bottle water to the face the past two days!

The chickens continue to be a daily surprise of illness. Eevee my big rooster boy started sounding crackly when breathing on Monday and this morning he was in pretty rough shape :-( He sounds like he can’t breathe and seems to be gasping for air. So I brought him inside and forced him to drink some Nutridrench, slathered him in VetRx, made him eat some scrambled eggs with Greek yogurt, and the gave him Tylosin and Safeguard. Feels like overkill, but the vet isn’t open till after Christmas. I’m not sure if it’s wet pox and the lesions are in his trachea so I can’t see them—or he may have gapeworms. Poor baby. He’s generally not a sit in your lap chicken, but today he sat with me all afternoon. I was somewhat encouraged by his progress over the 8 hours though—by the time I left him at 7 he was breathing much less panicky and seemed to have calmed enough to rest. So fingers crossed. He will be getting all the same things tomorrow…hopefully he shows even more improvement. Marianne definitely has wet pox in her mouth, but seems to be okay otherwise. I’m going to treat their water with safeguard since I haven’t ever wormed and it’s likely if one has worms they all might. Talk about survival of the fittest at my house! 🥴😣😩

The happiest news is that my Mommy is coming down to see us and gets here tomorrow! So excited to see her and the kids are too! Gotta love Grandmas! 😍
How on earth are you keeping the kitten a secret? Do you have a secret lair? And omigosh she's such a sweetheart. Helping at work and holding her own against jealous pooches. 😍

I'm so sorry you continue having issues with your feathered babies. Poor Eevee. I hope he and Marianne get all better soon.

My quail hens are awaiting my new project. Just waiting for some supplies to arrive before I can work on it :) They've been laying an egg every other day thus far. Seriously considering getting more quail, but I need to wait for the parrots to pass on.

Speaking of parrots - I MIGHT have a conure egg out of my breeding pair of green cheeks! Only took a year and a half!

Agreed! It always looks like it was freshly built and chickens added moments before the photos. Never any mess anywhere. I'm equally envious 😁
It was still early... ♡

Well said. I thought the same... @kurby must be a ninja master mom. I don't know how she does it. I remember being MUCH more frazzled as a parent. And Christmas time... who can plan a secrete kitten pick, adoption, pick-up and hide... an actually hide with said children in same home?!!!

Morning all Hide a kitten.. Totally amazed ..
We seem to have a dry day so far.. Need to get new photos of the banty .. Going to pull the 2 big birds from banty. Put them in with the 9, that is one more cockerel one pullet in there.

Ma a couple years before she passed. Neighbor was over with her granddaughter .. There is rhodie there at the corner a wild quail lived under it. Child asked its name.
Ma non pulsed said dinner .. Poor kid was crying then.:frow

Good morning gang! I hope you are all ready for Christmas or whatever holiday you may be celebrating ♡ Here, it will be just us 2.5 plus critters.
We will not be having MIL till Tuesday and then into the New Years where DH takes her back home to Oahu -Six months of long weekends went faster but harder than I thought it would- With this new Delta variant out and raging I don't think we accomplished all we had hoped for in keeping her in a safe travel bubble but we bought SIL six months till she retired w/ some rest so MIL can land safely and be cared for in her daughters prepared home.
Now, I know one holiday at a time but I am preparing (mentally) how I am going to get the animals up Koke'e and MIL plus necessary feed and food for our New Years.
I'm on the fence about taking chickens up ... well, leaning towards leaving them at home in the war zone. It will be my one big worry and possible regret. I do have the coops up there, just hate for them to travel.
Would love any thoughts, experiences or insights you folks may have with chickens and loud disruption v travel.
