What did you do with your flock today?

The same here. I about have to give away mixes with the poultry. Even crossing colors of the same breed gets lifted noses. My Phoenix are beautiful birds, but because they are a cross of red and white... My best selling are tiny serama bantams. As pets.

My mixes tend to be my favorites. Like the best of both.
Good life for a chicken being a pet I guess. Mine are pretty much, kind of like working pets.

After the serama, I would say that my mixed phoenix are a favorite. One of my breeding projects is to produce a long tailed bird that has feathered legs/feet, muff, and a crest. I only hatch a few for myself as I know that other people are not likely to want them, but even at that I have extras that I have to find a family for. The project is fun for me-a project that's likely to take years more.

None of my birds go for eggs and meat as I have a fascination with the tiny and small. Even my turkeys are a small breed. I wish I were younger to do more long range projects. One project would be to breed down my Midget White turkeys until they bred true to size. I've had a few poults mature the size of Brahma chickens and a bit smaller.

This is Tommy. Raised in the house, Tommy still follows me, after five years, until I pick him up for a hug.

I sat out in their plastic-up run in 15 degrees this morning and chatted with them for 15 min. checked everyone's feet and feathers and made sure they were getting some unfrozen water

Western Wisconsin! I grew up in Cadott and lived for years in Ladysmith until I retired and moved here. I do not miss WI weather, but I do miss everything else about WI.

Happy Thursday everyone. Not a lot going on today, but a break from the rain! So I took advantage of it and refilled their waterers and refreshed the meds and vitamins, laid out a fresh cover of Koop Klean straw, and checked the sickos over to see what else they needed.

Puff’s eye looks worse and his dry pox got a lot worse, but the scabs are starting to fall off so I’m hoping it means he’s moving on from it soon. I wiped it clean and applied some Terramycin to his eye and put antifungal antiseptic on his scabs. Wiped Newbell’s eye, put on some Terramycin and gave Typhoid Marianne some eggs and medicine. I am not sure she’s going to make it, but I’m doing all I can. Her mouth lesions on the bottom of her beak have gone away, but she new ones on the roof of her mouth that are getting bigger. I also felt a nodule in her neck but that’s not there today. She ate eggs and drank some water, so I’m trying not to give up hope…but she is pretty weak :-( On the bright side though, I have noticed less sneezing, less rales when breathing, and less lethargy from everyone else. So fingers crossed I am thru the worst of the illnesses :-(

Miyuki is seriously the cutest floofer and already super spoiled hehe. She is getting braver with the dogs, although the Frenchie is still being a jerk. And Koda was naughty and opened his Christmas presents without permission

Thanks! I concur, pox is a horrid thing. Especially since there’s nothing you can really do but cross your fingers and hope their immune systems and extra vitamins will be enough. The dry pox is hard to look at, but at least you know it’s there and can see it’s progression. The wet pox is just horrible!! I hate watching them struggle to breathe, and stop eating and drinking because they can’t keep stuff in their mouths due to the lesions. But I don’t want to give up on her cuz she’s fighting hard to live. I give her water thru a syringe and she ate almost 2/3rds of a can of wet cat food. It was the only thing I could think of that she could easily eat and she was so excited to eat it.

I sure hope I have your luck and don’t see it again ever :-( poor chickens :-(
