how many days has she been sitting on all eggs?I’m going to let her try! I’m going to candle them tonight and maybe take some of the clearly empty ones so she can focus on the ones left—she has at least 10 eggs under her even though I gave her 5![]()

9 days…so almost at a good point to candle with more certainty!how many days has she been sitting on all eggs?

So I paid an arm and a leg for it…but I bought the vaccine for MG and decided to give it a go and got a couple of new chickens. If it works, it will be worth the effort. I gave them the vaccine about a week ago and they all came down with a super mild version of it for about 2 days. You have to give it before they lay and after 4 weeks…so I got young pullets. I don’t intend to allow my birds to leave my property so I’m hopeful this makes things easier on any future chickies I have. The vaccine is cheaper per bird than the vet visits and meds I was pumping into the other birds, so I decided it paid off for my purposes. I can see it not being real logical for most chicken owners tho. Eventually my hope is for more disease resistant birds…and to see how this goes as a solution for any future new additions. So with that said - these are the new babies!

They have their own run covered in bird netting and their own coop for now…too young and too small for the big boy roosters! I hope I’m not a terrible person getting more birds!![]()
I guess we are waiting on @GG's broody too! Spring is right around the corner!Oh my goodness! Yes, please keep us posted on EVERYTHING! What a bunch of beauties ♡
You have the best chicken choices over there!! Amazing you can find pullets in any breed let alone a variety of beauties!
Well, a big congrats to you and your family. I am so stoked for you and your lucky chooks.
Perfect time for a candle. I'm right behind you so I think with Penny we have a mini hatch along. Anyone else?!

Lord. It is warm here... and February.Sure is I am hopefull as heck here can hardly wait for spring.
Good girl! Can't have just one though... and they come in other colors lol. Next time you go chicken shopping see if you can't find a Buff Brahma. You'll never be the same... they have the sweetest scream when you pick them up. They don't mind, very friendly but they just like to protest. Super cute ♡Thank you!!I do feel pretty lucky with the choices here! I had to try out a bantam Brahma after seeing all your beautiful ladies! She is the calmest, most gentle, and sweet chicken I’ve ever owned! Millie is very sweet too, but gets sassy hehe. And I just LOVE the way she walks like her feet have flippers on
We do have a mini HAL! How fun![]()
First of all, you're not a terrible person.... period. New birds or no new birds. Cut yourself some slack and enjoy those new lovelies! I personally am a little bit in love with your speckled beauty Millie.9 days…so almost at a good point to candle with more certainty!

I'm going to start collecting the eggs I'm hopeful about starting March 1. I don't think I want to encourage broodiness earlier than that. Once one shows signs, I'll slip the collected eggs under her. I suspect the broody box will be the oh-so-popular cat cave. It's on the floor of the run inside of a ginormous dog crate. If that does end up being where one of the ladies goes broody, I might just close the crate door each night to make sure she's safe. We have snakes, though, so I may move the cat cave to the coop. I don't know if it's true, but I read that snakes are less likely to enter an active coop than somewhere with less activity. I'd have to rearrange the nestbox setup in there, but it may be safer for her (and eventually the chicks) inside the coop rather than alone at night in the run....even in a closed crate. What do you all think?I guess we are waiting on @GG's broody too! Spring is right around the corner!
