What did you do with your flock today?

Cuz I don't have to dig a 1000 holes for trees. How's the arms and back today? You are a warrior! ♡

Yeah, sorry i have been MIA lately, but where do I begin (see below)? Yes, sore, but not too bad.
What? Hugh?!! Crap. I did not hear that one. Well, maybe people will quit driving around mindlessly. That would be wonderful for the planet and for us... our roads and traffic. Ok. But if we do the math, loosing 8% of our oil but price increase more than doubling? Hmm sounds like just another case of organized crime and somehow not shocking at all. Hope it propels us off of large scale oil. ⚖ what a racket.

Tell me about it. 🤦‍♀️
It is their breed. They are meat birds poor babies. Fat, fat, fat. They- well one especially is grossly overweight and with their messed up feet (and am sure a litany of other reasons = issues) they hobble pretty badly

Poor ladies. I guess they'll always have to be fed separately from the rest of the flock.
Maybe that is why I think my flock was being so perfect and polite? 🤔 by comparison? Nah, they were just being good. Probably more of a calm b4 the spring storm.
Your flock is always awesome 🥰

Hi everyone. We've had more excitement around here. The doeling we had decided wasn't pregnant...turned out she was. This morning DH went out to feed the dogs and goats/sheep while I went to let the pterodactyls out. I hear DH call out from the barn "Um...Honey...did you know we have a baby goat?" I flew to open coop doors and then left the free birds to their own devices. The sweetest little baby girl was just wobbling alone at the entrance to the barn.

When I got to the barn, baby was soaking wet, 30°F this morning, and mama was very against baby coming near. I grabbed baby up into my coat, took her inside and dried her off, gave her to DH who was now inside, and went to set up a dog crate in the barn....hoping if I put them together, mama would do mama things. But mama was having none of it. So I held mama's horns and spoke gently to her while baby got at least some colostrum. I wrapped baby in a towel and sat outside amongst the herd. The LGDs were very protective of baby and made sure I wasn't hurting her. Mama watched, but horned baby away if baby got near. Then I called the local farm supply store and asked if they had stuff for us to bottle feed...yup...so gave baby to DH to sit outside in the herd with her and I rushed to get everything.

When I got back, mama was sniffing and licking baby. And within about 3 hours, mama was letting baby nurse. So all is well and everyone on our little farm is completely in love with this new little girl.

Tonight and tomorrow are supposed to get down into the low teens, so I set up the double giant dog crate in the garage, stuffed it full of straw, added a hay basket, water, grain and at dusk added mama and baby. They'll be snuggly warm in there for tonight...let them out for the daytime tomorrow, and then back in the safety and warmth of the crate for the night.

So, now....introducing little baby Domino:

Speaking of chicken poop…We found Cher!!! YAY!!! 🥳🥳🥳 She was in the big chicken coop squeezed down in the poop bin! Blended right in with all the poop! I did not even think to look in the poop bin 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ But now she’s snuggled up under my chin and talking to me. Probably telling me how scary last night was 😆 poor girl! Thanks for all the positive thoughts! It helped ❤️❤️
I am sooooooooo glad you found her! Hoooray!!!!!! 🥰😍😁🙂

Omg she’s so cute! 😭❤️ Congratulations!!
I do, you have to rub it in a tea towel to get the stinging bits off if you want to eat it raw or many more people dry it for tea, seasonings and for the health benefits. I put it in soup a lot:) it is really good for you
So I’ve come to hear. :lau It must just be my area that doesn’t eat it, but with so many people trying it, it must be pretty good. XD
Welcome to BYC!

Thanks Kurby. If it makes you a little less jealous, our home insurance called us today to say they won't be covering us anymore because of our animals....apparently the very existence of a single goat/sheep/cow on more than 30 acrs and suddenly you're a business even if you never plan to sell a single thing from your farm. 🤦

No problem. We love our animals and will find another provider.

I know everyone at your house is doing the happy dance too. Cher hiding in the poop box is pretty hilarious.

Well that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard! I’m glad you can look elsewhere. Insurance companies are LAME.

Yes, we were all super happy and my daughter was so happy when she got home from school! 😍

Also, speaking of happy…Chloe got her wheels today! She’s very much enjoying better mobility! Poor old lady dog!
