Glamor shots lol. @kurby you have so much going on! I don't know how you do it... ♡

Here is one of my mornings "Glamor shots"

Always taking new photos of the boys for their post. No serious inquiries yet. This is the time I start to get nervous. Chicken juggle. Boys are just starting to get amorous and assertive so will have to separate soon.
Little miss Pi'i is in observation with calcium & vitamins. She has reproductive issues and we seem to go through this every so many months. I hope this is passing like the last few.

If she does not eat her favorite food laced with calcium I am going to have to dose her directly.

Oh wow, Heneviere and crew look a lot like ODs, I had to look again to see the spangled pattern! I love the name Heneviere btw :D I named one of my OD hens "Henley" hehe. Your Yokos fascinate me, are they generally easy going and friendly? They’re so pretty and unique!

I love Oregon haha, he seems super nosy and full of personality 😆 But that dark pied lady is my favorite! How pretty! A female that is pretty too!

I also want your call ducks haha. You have all sorts of awesome colorful birds! 😍😍😍 thanks for sharing all your babies. I just love all the pictures of peoples flocks!
They do don't they! That was a pet peeve of the lady I got my dwarfs from. She felt too many people were calling birds dwarfs that probably weren't dwarfs at all. I'm too new to the breed to have much of an opinion and I'm not a skilled chicken breeder to boot. I've never breed to meet standards, never shown birds were you have to learn standards etc. My eye is a greenhorn when it comes to knowing what breeds should look like! I wish green fire still had pictures up of the original imports though. But I definitely do a double take on some of the od pictures I see!

Oh my goodness ♡♡♡ I'm just in love with what you are doing. I want to be your neighbor and enjoy the sounds of the jungle lol.
What started you on peacocks and heritage breeds? How long have you been keeping as your confidence level is awesome.
Also, how does everyone do with the heat and what are your best tricks for it?
I've owned poultry most of my life. Most were raised for eggs or the freezer.

The peacocks...wow they were fun to get. A neighbor who breeds them offered me some eggs...peafowl and silver pheasant. That was 9 or 10 years ago. My kid got so excited that she built me an incubator. And....it worked! 🥳🥳🥳 So we got our first peachicks. Every now and then I almost quit keeping them and then something will happen to keep me at it. The last time was 2 years ago...a fellow showed up at my door looking for white peahens and I gave him one. He knew my neighbor so I wouldn't let him buy her. A few months later he shows up at my door with a Java baby for me and all of a sudden I wanted to keep breeding them. 🫣🤣

The heritage breeds were also gifts. I ruptured an ovary at the beginning of the pandemic. Who knew it's possible to cough hard enough to rupture an ovary! 🤣 My surgery was postponed 6 months and I felt sick as a dog. So my lovely kids got me Yoko's, spangles and Creles as a mother's day gift. Then when I was almost recovered from the surgery, I broke my midfoot. I'd hit it with a pitchfork and broke it before so it was weak in that spot. This time it didn't heal well so I've been in medical boots and pt for the last year. No sad faces! It's almost healed so all's great😃. And I'm normally very healthy and accident free! So last year my kids got me call ducks as a mother's day gift to brighten my day. Did I mention I love my kids? I'm one lucky momma!❤️🥰

Then this year one of my best friends passed away and willed me her dwarf chickens. I'd rather have her...but I do love those chickens. She was an experienced breeder etc...I'm not. At first I felt like I had to learn to be an experienced breeder to keep them...now I think she just wanted me to enjoy them...which is easy to do and I'm very good at...lol.

So anyways...almost every bird on my place was given to me or bred from birds given to me...and it's probably why I always try to give away birds instead of selling them. I've been very blessed by the people in my life.

O...and I've learned not to coo over birds I think are adorable in front of my kids! I'm out of space for any more coops!🤣

For heat I just use cooling bowls. Rubber feed pans that the birds can stand in. Then as much shade as I can give them. Covered runs with buildings and trees that cast shade, and vines. My oldest coop is well covered with cats claw vine and my newer ones have cats claw planted. @kurby22 uses a little ac unit and I'm on the lookout for one now. The dwarfs seem to dislike the heat more...not surprising for a swedish breed! My friend had her coops densely covered in cats claw and I don't think the heat was ever an issue for them there. So I'm guessing mine will be comfortable in a couple years once the vines are going well. In the meantime...I love the lil ac unit idea!

@kurby22 Yoko temperament! They're absolute sweethearts. Very mellow, friendly birds. They get along well with multiple roosters, handle new birds being added to the flock pretty well and I've never had one turn mean. They're pretty relaxed and always curious.

Wow! First, I need a child that can make me an incubator! :-D That’s awesome your kids are so supportive and involved in your animal habits hehe. How neat that all your birds were just meant to be in your life! ❤️❤️ I need more friends and people in my life that bring me things I didn’t even know I wanted 😆 I’m sending out into the world that I just LOVE mini goats and mini cows 😁😁😁😁

I’m glad to hear the Yokos are friendly!! They sound perfect for the flock I have…I’m excited for next year when my Polish are laying 😆

Have you looked on their page lately? They are selling ODs again and are probably reusing their photos from 2012 and 2014. I’m curious if they brought over new blood, I wish they weren’t all the way in Florida!

My oldest daughter is always amazing me with what she can do!

Mini cows!!! Be careful what you wish for...we've had goats, horses, tortoises, geese, ducks etc that were all given to us over the years! They've all been a pleasure, but I'm happy to say that the last of our goats passed away last year. I'll miss him (goats are really fun) but I won't miss the way he used to climb into our little pond to eat everything...lol.

This is the pond this year....it's the first year that it hasn't been mowed to water level!

Hello! This is a place to post pictures/talk about what you and your flock have done today.

I was on a zoom call earlier and Iris, my rooster, decided to stand behind me and crow repeatedly. Thankfully I was on mute, but it was still annoying. They couldn’t see him, but they could see me trying to make him quiet, which was a little embarrassing.
Here’s a pic of my boy with some mini roses.

What about you guys? Have you done anything interesting with your flock today?

Here are a few pictures of my birds.

Beautiful chickens. Love the Iris story. Yesterday, I was gardening so I gave my babies their first worms. It was hysterical 🤣
