What did you do with your flock today?

To me that looks like a young, overhormoned teenage boy that hasn’t yet figured out how to woo her properly. I have a couple like that and some have grown out of it and others don’t. They’re too young to mate but he has the drive to do it and just can’t figure out how it’s done properly and she’s too young to tell him off. Try squirting him with the hose when he does it and see if that helps deter him. If not, a couple days of isolation may help. I’m rehoming Ferdinand because he did not grow out of this phase and is just more annoying and disrespectful to his elders. You don’t want babies that carry on with these manners so I’d consider rehoming if he doesn’t grow out of it as he ages! He’s very pretty though

Thank you! He is! I will try that! I will get a big water gun, that will be way easier. He is WAY to young to mate, that is what has been throwing me off. But he crowed at 5 weeks old too. I hope he calms down.

No blood shed that goodness. He tries with a few others but this one is his favorite to pick on right now. Others he thinks about, runs up to them like he is going to, stops dead in his tracks and doesn’t do anything. And no, she isn’t new. They all came together. I just put them outside (coop finally ready for them) a few nights ago. Up until then everything was fine.

Joey is my oldest boy right now 9 months old and he's always done so well with the others. Only problem really was with Grayson his brother...he'd set him in his place every morning and Grayson got out of his way fast.
Now Joey is either ultra hot (duh it is 100+), hormonal, or tired of all the babies! Or all of the above cuz he's been acting awful lately.
I was just out there transitioning babies to larg brooder in run and he bites one of the d'uccles and hangs on to her poor lil head til I hollered at him! NOT ok!
He's been getting worse even with me when I come into the run. He even charged me the other day while I let him out with me while I watered! Seriously!?
Wish I had thought of the hose!

I hope he doesn’t start charging on me. My husband will put a permanent stop to that. He did it 3 nights ago, but one of my daughters and I was putting a net up on the run. So I thought it had something to do with that. But the next morning I take and let them out. She was one of the first ones out and the other Splash Ameraucana girl. He attacked them both. The day before, he was out first and checked it out. Then the girls came out. He didn’t do anything. This morning I let them out and really watch him. This time the Barred Rock and a Cuckoo Maran came out first and he attacked them. I wouldn’t be so concerned since he does this to ALMOST all the girls, but this one is different. He grabbed the 2 girls and that was it, but with the one in the video it is consistent. I will be getting a water gun though. Yup, cause if that don’t work, he’s going in solitary confinement. I want to keep him. I just need to be able to get through all this without injuries. And maybe the heat isn’t helping him either. We are at 100degrees here too without that being the feel temp.

Welp. I am a big fan of picking up my boys, especially when bad. You are the senior hen as those girls are too young to stick up for themselves. You dont have to be unpleasant, just pick him up and walk the yard. In my opinion, picking up and carring is a polite form of dominance and it will serve you well in your future together. The minute he starts that bad behavior scoop him up and go for a walk. Talk sweet, give him treats, be kind. If he gets rough with you give him a peck with your finger.
You also may want to consider separating him from the girls for more than a few months if need be. Having cockerels with no older chickens to put them in their place is tricky. I hope he mellows

The little sign there says "I have ocd. Obsessive Chicken Disorder" It was given to me by the same lady that gave me my original chickens, so it definitely needed to go in there.

You dont have to be unpleasant, just pick him up and walk the yard. In my opinion, picking up and carring is a polite form of dominance and it will serve you well in your future together. And also the dragon fruit @ChicksnMore ! I have 3 reds w/red flesh- super sweet variety and just traded composted poop for a new variety of super, super sweet yellow!

Well, been out in the yard this morning watching the girls get all besides themselves over nest boxes while I raked pineneedles. Peaches manage to hop ontop of the shack and Spider followed. I'm sure there is still eggs up there from.last year lol. Guess I need to think about moving that little coop.

DH came up with 3 more chickens, Mochi, Forest and Elliott, hummus and plain Greek yogurt lol. Now he is napping. Said it was a lot of work

Loving not being miserably hot. Think the whole gang is stoked too.

Can try at night when he is roosting if need. Don't terrorize him and make him ever weirder lol. All about the calm and steady ♡ I start when my boys are little and it seems to help. I know I have made it through a few (50++?) snotty teens and have only recently had one that I thought may be off. I rehome them for # or noise or looks. Never people aggression and once hen prejudice but I bought him as a 2yo. Good boy, beautiful babies but NO ONE picks on mommy's babies lol. So I know how you feel. Again, it is tough if you don't have a matriarch to wallop bad behavior.

Ya know, I once had this beautiful cockerel, my first I think and same age as my girls. Boy he was a sh*t to them. Anywho, I took him down to our pasture and let the big boys kick his butt for a day. Had to do it 2x but he came back well mannered to the ladies. He was the only one I had to do that with. It was so sad it was funny. He was literally crying. Me too inside (lol)
