What did you do with your flock today?

Love the ice plant (akulikuli flower ♡) idea. Very pretty too!
Cracks me up about expanding- your dad's patience! 😂💕
I need to improve my sewing skills b4 I would seriously put my bags in a shop, (I see awesome bags on Etsy for $8-$15 😮) but I keep getting asked about selling them so think I may be onto something...? We shall see... I better keep practicing my patience. Love the awareness and the recycle. It is a win right there.

Still don't know who she has. She is sitting tight.
There is just something about tiny chick faces!! Just love the pics! 😍😍

Well, making good progress on the duck area. I filled a little more then ten buckets of dirt from in there to use in my garden later, and added some of the dirt to my compost bins. The dirt in there is rich from all the years of birds in there...everything from pigeons, pheasants, peacocks and chickens. Here's the dirt from in there...

And this is what our dirt normally looks like...

It was hard making myself add sand in there! But it sounds so good for the ducks, so I did it. Here's the sand going in. I'm so grateful we have tons in the wash...hate to think what it'd cost to buy that much.

I still haven't tried attaching the hose to the stock pond and not sure I'm going to for a bit. I think for now I'll just move them in with the 20 gallon bowl...I need to get some housework done!

I'm only moving the four we're keeping...our original three ❤️ babies and the female from this year's babies. Our girl Peeky was getting too much male attention when it was just her and two boys! Then I'll put the rest of the babies up for sale.

I have had a problem with my boy when he was like 8-9 weeks. He kept picking on the girls and one in particular. I’m calling it picking on because he is way advanced in his maturity and the girls are not even close. But he is getting where he is making himself more dominant of them all. He is out first and then as the girls come out he is grabbing the back of their necks. Which I know is normal but what makes me nervous with him is him dancing around me. I worry he is going to attach me. I have a strange feeling it’s coming. But I got advice to just walk right through him as if he isn’t there from one of the members on here. He got kicked today and it was an honest accident. I was walking to get them more food in their feeder and he jumps aggressively in front of me and I kept walking but he wasn’t moving. They will only be 13 weeks tomorrow. I have this feeling I won’t be getting babies from him.

Last night my DH and I worked on the duck coop and in my opinion it is looking awesome! Got fencing up on the pallets, door is attached and added some fence were the pallets aren’t at. We also painted it.

Ahhh, yeah rooster boys really struggle with those hormones! Some work their way thru them and others do dumb boy things too much and pay the price one way or another. I was sitting with my flock this morning watching the boys be boys and feel like we are nearing time for more thinning out and the decisions are just going to get tougher because the ones left are all favorites. :( I wish my yard was big enough for a true rooster flock. Ugh!

Your duck coop looks amazing, I'm so impressed! :love

Oh no! That would be hard considering your losses! I don’t know how i would pick after that. I had another rooster lined up for when it was his time to go but I will have to try again in the spring.

Thank you! I’m so excited for it! It’s really in a great spot because it’s right behind the house and I can see it right out of my kitchen window. I currently have tent obstructing my view but that won’t always be there lol

Yeah, we are going to say good bye to Ferdinand this weekend and while I know the flock will be happy, my daughter is going to be so sad. The rooster rescue is so great though. I may have to rehome the Polish too, especially if they are both boys as I am almost certain the frizzle is a Joe--not a Josephine. :( He is a really sweet and quiet boy that wants to visit me and be loved on, but is really afraid too. Spider wants nothing to do with people but he's started crowing and challenging some of the other boys. UGH, why couldn't he be a pullet?? :hit Gonna be pondering my choices a bunch!

It is so nice being able to see them and have them close by! I wouldn't trade my cameras for anything haha!

@FBMcrazy8 your pen looks wonderful! I feel for you on the hormonal babies. It's part of why I don't handle the chicks much...I think the roosters that get handled a lot as chicks are prone to turning mean when the hormones kick in. By waiting to make friends with them after the hormones are raging, I never had to butcher a roo gone bad that I adored. Though we've had and have some amazing roosters that got loved to death as babies! But when it went bad...it was just hard.

@kurby22 I am so crazy about your polish! I hope you get to keep them. Joe/Josephine sounds like such a darling too ❤️. I hate thinning...but I'm crazy 🤣. It's so easy to get attached though. Give your lovely daughter a big hug! I always felt bad for my kids so they each ended up with their own little flock to manage. My oldest is almost 30 now (she moved home to help out while I was sick) and she says to do whatever I want with her birds...but she also built a little bitty coop in her garden for them and visits them daily. She still likes to hug Manchego and watch his eyes go all sleepy...lol. I'm positive she's saying what she thinks she should as an adult rather then what she hopes for. So they're here forever.
