What did you do with your flock today?

Finished setting up their new coop and got them all settled. They are super happy with the amount of new room they have to forage around. The littles are still in their separate coop in the garage. They are only like 5 wks and 8 wks so still some time before I start working on integrating. But here are some pics of the new digs and happy kids

Aloha and Welcome South Florida! Congratulations on the new chicken space ♡ always fun!!! Love those cage kits and your sand box is huge and lovely!
How big is you flock and what ages?

I keep forgetting to share some pictures from my daughters first game! We only stayed until half time. It took 2 hours to just get to half time. And she was exhausted. I’m thinking she will get better with more games she does. The first picture she is busting a move cause they finally scored a touch down. Lol

SOOOOOOOO COOOOL! Did she have a good time? ♡

Oh she loved it!!! At first she didn’t want to leave but closer to half time she kept setting down on the track. She isn’t used to having to have to stand for long periods of time. But she is always wanting me to practice with her. So I do, cause the more she does the better she will remember. She has sisters that love helping her to.

Her next game is Thursday. An hour away but we are going to try to get to that one. As of right now it’s a go. But we probably won’t send her on her own. She doesn’t communicate well and if something is wrong I want to be there. Especially with her heart condition.

I have 4 that are about 12 wks old. Got those at TS and lost 2 of the original to sickness they came to me with, got 2 more. The gold one is Goldie (Welbar is what she is supposed to be) The Roo is Midnight (Black Copper Maran) and the 2 blueish gray ones are either Sapphire Gems or Orpingtons they were Thelma and Louise but the one turned out to be a Roo (gotta love TS) and so he is Louis. LOL
I have 4 new babies that I got from a local farm...SO much better than TS. I ahve the Silver Laced Wyandotte (Lacey) Silkie Bantam (Sassy) Easter Egger (Cleopatra-Cleo for short) and the gray Olive Egger (Storm). They are all 5 wks except for Cleo who is almost 8 wks.

Wow! You have like one of everything! They are very cute ♡

I use snap traps. Last year before we were able to move in, there was a LOT of them ending up in the house. Part of that is the kitchen was open due to redoing the foundation and completely gutting out the kitchen. We had the rest of the house blocked off as best as we could. So I don’t know how bad the mice will be out here yet, but after clearing them out we have only had 2 show up and they were gone immediately. I believe we have an idea of were they are coming in at but with our luck there will be a few places. If it gets too bad, I will probably use a live trap, one that will catch more than one. Only because the snap traps can only catch one at a time. Mice are cute, but I also hate them. I grew up with them and you would think I would be used to them but to this day they freak me out. I’m always waiting for one to run at me and crawl up my leg pants. I know more than likely not gonna happen but…..the thought is there 😂

Here the mice showed up with the birds. Luckily they stick to hanging around the coops rather then the house, but it's a never ending battle with them there. Ours are small and can get through hardware cloth so just not sure how to keep them out. Kinda gave up on that and switched to trapping.

I am about to go clean out their stinky brooder. They really need to be in a coop out back. It's coming . . . next week. Meanwhile, scoop for my compost. :ya
They make the best dirt!
I feel ya! I have a brooder in the garage and sure was hoping to get a better door on the brooder in the big run before my surgery yesterday...didn't happen.
So I gently walked the 2 lil cochins from garage to the run with others.
DH fed em all extra mash last night so they would have some for this morning. Cochins didn't understand why they couldn't ride on my shoulders like the normally do to go out back...not bending is really limiting me in everything i do.
this too shall pass though! And im not takin the opiods prescribed either...grin n bear it!
How did the surgery go? I expected you to be laid out flat 24-7 for a bit but your up and walking for your chickens! Now that's love!
Hope you get lots of lay down time while you heal...im guessing it's what you need most right now. I can only imagine how much it must hurt and I'm so glad you're avoiding the opioids. Three cheers and big hugs!
So wait... my bug people are afraid of little mice? 😅
Have any of you guys tried the electric traps? We had a mouse up here awhile back and my friend let me borrow hers. Worked really good. A bit more of an investment to start but very reuser friendly. My kitties seem to be keeping the rodents under control. Bonus!! 😸

Well good morning all!
@Gammas Bearded Babies , I have been thinking of you and missing your presence here. I hope all went well with your surgery and you have many pain free years ahead of you. Wishing you helpful patient people and a quick heal ♡ so you can get back to being you!
Glad you also have chicken therapy!

@Hip Hillbilly Farm :frow I saw you floating around another thread and am super happy to see you pop-up here! We have a fun (bug collecting, mice fearing) flock proud crowd. Your mention of compost makes me think you are in the right place! Got a few carbon catching earth makers here too! So welcome to @Frankie's thread! 😁We are happy to have you!

@FBMcrazy8 sorry about your MIL. You are not alone. Adiction is a real thing and by his grace ...♡ go we. I hope she finds the rooms to which she can find recovery and a freedom beyond her wildest dreams. Miracles happen every day ♡♡♡
Electric traps! I definitely need to learn about those!

Awww...what a fun time that sounds like! Hope you guys make it to the Thursday game as well. Sounds like a long drive but such a good thing❤

Poor Louise to end up a Louis! I can picture Thelma and Louise ending up big, tough hens....but a roo! 😭🤣
Your pen looks big and roomy and your babies are adorable...especially that little puffed one looking so quizzically at the camera ❤

I haven’t found any in the coop yet but I’m sure it won’t be long. I’m hoping though that since it is up high, they will be too lazy. Haha yeah right! We have flat lands basically. So for them to make their way to our house, they have to be pretty brave. There isn’t many trees or anything for them to hide. At least not until they get closer to the house. I’m hoping that it won’t be bad out here. Especially since one side of the house has new foundation. And some other parts has a sealer on it.
