What did you do with your flock today?

@GBB (gamma bearded babies) I am happy that you have a terrific and helpful neighbor. A little assist goes a long ways sometimes also a good reminder of the little things making a big impact ♡ she sounds like a chicken tender to me ♡

@kurby22 It is going to be so gratifying catching those rats. Where is PJ and her pellet gun when you need her?!
Keep us posted as this could be fun, I live vicariously through you!

@GallusPhallus We made special gates for our decks. They work 90% but leaning a scary broom where the chooks can see it has worked 100% 😉

Did you visit Kauai @ChicksnMore ? Other isles have chooks but NONE have like Kauai 😜 We don't have the mongoose who seem to keep the #s on other isles down. Yes they are small, large bantam esq, probably from poor diet generation after generation plus being descendants of junglefowl. But do fill out nicely with care. They are amazingly resourceful. There are not as many chickens up Koke'e (w/exception to the state park where they are fed).
I am sure the nests get raided by wild pigs and it is harder to raise a clutch with pigs, cold temperatures and rain, plus NOT a lot of bugs up here either. Down the mountain the pox seems to be the big killer of chicks.

Good morning and happy trade wind day for me! Nice clear skies this morning and they may just hold!
Thinking just a little yard work and wait for the roads to dry some today.
Chicks love me now. Amazing what a few mealworms can do in a relationship.

Need to clean out their brooder and I cut them a stick to stare at till they figure it out.
Visited with my Kekaha flock via Blink. DH is doing a great job, getting 8 average eggs per day!, letting broody and crew wander the run now. I can checks Temps via the Blink too and they have been staying in the 88's pretty consistently 👍. DH still adding electrolytes and B12 two times a week. 👍👍👍
@kurby22 maybe you can find a couple of these to assist you with your visitors. Kauai is happy to send you some ♡♡♡

We went to Oahu. We didn't see chickens in most of the peopled areas, but when we did a bus that ran along the coast and made rest stops here and there, there were chickens running around in the trees everywhere we stopped. It was so beautiful there and the little chickens running around were charming.

That picture of your chickie is to die for! It'd look awfully good in byc's calendar by the way😃😍. Think that could be trimmed to fit the format and still look to die for!

Well today was a fun one. Went into town this morning to meet up with our old neighbor to go for a walk. Both my kids and two dogs joined us. It was a great way to start the day though it meant I missed out on my garden time this morning.
Took my youngest out to eat while my oldest went off to work, spent a long time yakking with my brother on the phone, processed zucchini, cooked dinner with my youngest and now I'm taking a break before I go separate out some birds to run to a friend's house tomorrow. Giving her two pea babies and a couple of ducks.

We found a baby rattlesnake in the courtyard earlier so going to boot up and use bright lights. Usually one baby snake means there's a lot more. I'm getting awfully good at getting those rattlesnakes...but the babies are kinda terrifyingly mean little buggers! I couldn't believe how many times it tried to strike me...it didn't even try to run. So boots and good lights. Fingers crossed all my dogs and cats know to leave snakes alone as well as I think they do.🤞

I went down the mountain to get materials for a bottom to the brooder.

Just loved seeing my babies ♡♡♡

broody has moonscaped the run looking for bugs so I tore it up further for them and we found all kinds of bugs and then I went and found some lizards.

brought the babies down and they are staying the night as I have to do some errands in town tomorrow. One son has covid and family has exposure so I am designated errand runner.
