What did you do with your flock today?

Pretty sure Snug is a rooster by the comb size. Figures eh 🤣. Ignore my stained hands...ive been working with rebar wire and it'll take some brush work to get the stain out.View attachment 3384921View attachment 3384917View attachment 3384918
Those are working hands that gets things done! He's going to be handsome!
I've been working on finishing up my new coops that I started over the summer. Thought I'd have finished them before winter came but ... šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Anyways, the framings up. Hopefully I'll get to the siding in the next few days, then pick up roofing material on Sunday. No hurry since Mina the goat is living in one of the runs while she works on growing big enough to join Jazzy.

Not much to look at yet, but I'm pleased. So far it's cost me $0 in wood cost as everything is reused. Even the structural bolts I'm using are reused 🤣. I spent about $4 on a roll of rebar wire to act as an extra set of hands is all so far. View attachment 3385450
Your winter sunshine looks lovely!

I would have loved to see Ferdy's act. So sorry it did not work for you, and so sorry for your loss. Glad you caught one!
Ferdy's Chicken Little act is really something to behold! Trouble is, he spooks everyone else and now Stanley joins in so it's absolute bedlam!
He did well yesterday though, warning me and the girls about the return of the peregrine falcon. Got an extra snuggle and treats for that.

Got another one!:yaIt's joined the other one at the allotment. Our allotment is by the river across some rail tracks so there's plenty of natural cover and resources for them. They might stand a chance of living a happy life not bothering anyone. Here's hoping šŸ¤ž

Feels like my whole flock knows and is holding vigil.
Ferdy sits in the nest box with all the girls when they're laying, except Gladys (he's too scared of her)....whether they like it or not! 🤣

Congrats on the rat! Ferdy sounds like a delightful goofball 🤣

Man you are doing amazing! I begged and begged my DH to get every pallet we've seen on sides of road, free pickup etc.
Nothing I have attempted to use em for have turned out even remotely as good as yours!!!
And that lil baby is adorable!

Ferdy sounds adorable! 🄰 I don’t know why I haven’t had a single bantam Cochin that is sweet and personable! I must have a line of them that’s just not been bred for temperament. I have 6 of them and not a single one is very friendly! Same with my bantam Brahmas—I thought they’d be lap chickens as many have described but mine are not. Not saying I don’t love having them and their dynamic in the flock, it’s just so opposite what I’ve heard from others! And my d’Anvers are just the sweetest birds and love attention and get along well even with too many roosters and everyone told me they would be saucy and slightly aggressive roosters! So interesting to me how clearly responsible breeding makes a difference. Your babies sound just adorable and full of character! šŸ˜

I think I've hit on the ideal bait - Garvo chicken food mixed with tinned salmon! Sounds weird but it seems to be working! We've tried all sorts of other bait, from peanut butter to cat food and none of it's been touched.

Obviously, I'm completely biased but I love Ferdy's antics. He's clearly a very intelligent little chicken. He "gets" things really quickly and is a good problem solver. He knows to find me if there's a problem and he has learnt to open the latch on every gate or door we've had on the run. He even manages to open his coop door if I don't wedge it shut from the outside!
BUT he has absolutely NO common sense, hence his Chicken Little act! 🤣

That’s looking great!! Pallet coops are really quite awesome! Someday when I feel more handy and confident I’m gonna try my hand at it! šŸ˜
