What did you do with your flock today?

You have some beautiful babies! I meant to say that when you posted the pictures but I lost where it was by the time I had a chance to say something. And very cute names!
Thank you. 😊 I'll let them know. I mean they will let it go to their heads but oh well. If Gemma gets too cocky, I'll tell her she has bed feathers. Lol

Today I got the brooder some what ready for the babies. I just really need some bedding and they will be good to go. I am down to 4 Cemani’s and one Cochin. All the ones I tried to seal the cracks on died. The rest of what I have seen to be doing well and very active.

We also had hundreds of geese in the field next to us and flying around. It was just so crazy! The pictures doesn’t even give it all justice. You can’t see all of them but it gives a pretty good idea. These pictures are basically side by side. It isn’t that THEY moved…I turned to take pictures of all of them. They basically covered about 4 acres+ of property. My property alone is 3.5 and they exceeded that by so much more.

So the long story is there was a murder in Kalaheo and the suspect fled up to Koke'e. So I turned on the cameras at the cabin and I caught A rat. Guess I am going to have to listen to alerts until either the feeder is empty or they catch the guy.... 🐀

Oh nooo, naughty rat!!!

It really is. They definitely felt like tumors but I was soo new to chickens I had no idea. To me they felt like fatty tumors like our dog has…so I wasn’t sure if she just had a super unusual presentation of dry pox, cancer, poison…I was so confused—still am.

I sent off more samples for Nohope. This time I checked all the possible things it might be that they test for—aspergillus, campylobacter, clostridium, IBV and ALV. If it’s none of those I guess we can assume poison if some kind. 😢
Fingers crossed for answers 🤞
Today i pulled out literally half of Ferdy's foot feathers on his right foot, :hit
I didn't realise he was so close to my feet so I stood on them! Naturally, he ran off screeching. I went after him and he jumped on my shoulder to snuggle so I knew I was forgiven. Fortunately he seems none the worse for his accidental stomping, no bleeding or even bruising, thank God!
Anyhow, he's been getting extra snuggles and t.v. time tonight. He's also enjoying some chilli cornbread and oatmilk from a syringe. I do love my cut-price parrot 😍
So funny! The friend I was hatching eggs for came and picked up the chicks. Fluffy headed polish babies. Apparently she has a friend that wants a parrot like pet chicken. 😂
Do they just do TX residents or does each state have something like that reckon?
If you have a local college, you can see if they have an agricultural program that'll test for you. That's what I do here...saves on shipping.

O that's awful. Hope they catch him quickly ☹️. Keep safe if you have to run up there for anything.

I'm sorry ya got one of those critters in there! I've been wondering what they would look like on camera during the night...now I know. My camera just isn't as close up as yours...mine is of entire run n back of coop.
I always wondered how yall could tell otherwise that you had em...

Noted - thank you!

Had a long power outage during the night. My incubators are hooked up to a battery backup so they were just fine, but the brooders weren't. Woke up to find one chick passed during the night. ☹️ My backup has more outlets, so thinking about how to move things around so my brooders are near to the incubators and can share the backup battery. Poor little tykes must have been cold.
Windy windy day here. I can hear it howling around outside!

Awe I'm so sorry! That's amazing you have backup sources though. Moving stuff around isn't easy but sounds like you are able to prevent future issues.
What kind of backup is that you are using?
I have been very fortunate to not had any outages in my 7 hatches ... but would be good to know.
