What did you do with your flock today?

That's exciting. It's fun when you know birds you bred with love are scattered around and thriving.
But I haven't hatched any of my own egg's from these yet. Those were all from shipped hatching egg's that I bought from different states. I will be doing a hatch though from my adult's here for the Easter hatch-a-long this year. You are here in AZ. so if you need some Bielefelder's just let me know. :jumpy

Can I make you drool again? Made this one for our church Mexico mission team auction. Now that that's done, came home to find Pepper made some really smelly poo. Is that what broody poo smells like, almost like cat poo? It's getting smaller, yay! I think she's liking the special food, not having to wait to eat, getting a break from the boys. Not liking her butt washed daily, being wet, having someone doing things to her back end all the time. We might get snow overnight.

This is too pretty to eat!! I think you need to make me one too 😁😁😁 Your friends are so lucky!

Well, the little Cochin is still in the shell but breathing 😮‍💨 and the other one is still only piped BUT I hear another one tapping on a shell. :weeI’m trying to remain calm because none are even out of the shell yet and anything can happen.
If the Cochin hasn’t hatched yet I would help her out. She may need extra assistance if she makes it. I’ve had some start the process and not make it due to shipped egg issues. Sometimes they get turned around and stuck so help after this long is needed. Peel shell away, not membrane so you can ensure there are no blood vessels in the membranes. If they look clear, you can then peel away some membrane as well. Yay for the others!!

I too will pray for those little call duck eggs and for your friend. Loss like that is so hard no matter what! 😢

Edit to add - in cases where they seem to be dealing with a drying out membrane you can rub the membrane with a bit of Vaseline. Helps a lot!

O that's so 😭. Prayers and good thoughts ❤️

Yay! A beautiful puddle of blackness ❤️

If it hasn't hatched yet, I'd definitely assist. Did it make it?
Thank you! I told my husband and he is going to go buy me another incubator so I can help her. And eventually will help me too.

S/he is VERY beautiful! Just a talking little thing.

I did assist. The poor thing had rested for so long that the egg shell had stuck to it. The humidity was in the 70s but I think because the little one took such a long break that there wasn’t going to be a difference. S/he is chirping away and moving around pretty good. I didn’t want to assist but I could tell that the little one was struggling. I don’t notice anything wrong with the baby so I think it was just it was stuck. I had to use warm water and a q-tip to loosen up the shell around it.

You did good 😃 Can't wait to see more pics of your babies...first time I saw the insides of shipped eggs I cringed. Isn't it amazing they can hatch?

I did help her out. She wasn’t shipped. BUT she was in that fall. And my only Cochin to live through that. She started off strong and then took a break, and I knew she was absorbing her yolk cause of her mouth movement. But as the day went on I seen her try to move and she just could not. I took her out and used warm water to help loosen the shell she was stuck too. She seems to be doing pretty good. I did start with the shell too and there was nothing but clear membrane. The little one just got ahead of itself and got stuck cause it dried.

I know she was so devastated. She went into where the brooder was while talking to me and said something to the babies and they all started chirping at her and running to her voice….she started crying again. 😭😭😭 I haven’t had to deal with a weasel but I do know how it is to see your babies destroyed. And they are nothing but sweet little ducks that just want to play in water and have so much fun and don’t hurt anything. Her and I really appreciate the prayers!

Your birds are beautiful...it's tempting! If my property test myco free in a month or two I might see if you have any you'll part with ❤️

That it is!!! I have one more little one breaking through the shell. I don’t know what the other 2 are doing but I do hope they hatch soon. But 3 out of the 5 isn’t terrible considering what they went through. Thank you btw. It was so hard to decide to do it or not. I didn’t want to interfere if something was wrong but I’m glad I did. She did all she could do but did give it a really good go.

This is the best picture I can get of the 2 right now. I didn’t take one right after because I was so worried about her. But the awaiting egg is in the picture as well.
