What did you do with your flock today?

I will take a pictures of her. She just does not look good. I can’t bring myself to cull her. I don’t want her in pain or miserable but I also want to give her a fighting chance. I want to handle her and put more antibiotics on it but I’m afraid that handling her will make it worse.

She may need oral antibiotics. Do you have any iodine or hibiscrub? You could dab her navel with it to sterilize it and help dry it out.

@FBMcrazy8 I have had some chick's hatch before that were sort of sticky and had not absorbed the egg yolk yet. The sticky ones happened back when I was using a styrofoam incubator. I would take a warm wet wash rag and quickly wipe them off and then put them back into the incubator.

The hatched without completely absorbing the yolk ones happened in both that incubator, and in the NR360 that I am currently using. I just let those one's work it out on their own. They will finish the yolk and then kick off the remaining part of the shell themselves.

If you end up with a chick that get's a hard ball of poop by the vent, do not pull it off as that could tear them up and cause bleeding. Put a drop of baby oil or olive oil on it and gently rub it loose. It has been my experience that the one's that have this problem ended up being boy's.

She doesn't seem to be, as she was hungry, turned her beak up at Rice and applesauce, and has scratched shavings from one end of the crate to the other. Headed for her shower and slathering today.

If she no longer seems to be in pain, I'd be inclined to stop the meloxicam. Obviously, if she acts like she's in pain you can always start giving it to her again.

Just make sure that the inside temp in the incubator stays at 99.5 -f. What is your current humidity at in it?

I'd say don't give up. You never know,, ya know?! She just may be slow absorbing her yolk. If her yolk is green I'd drop some antibiotic down her or cull.

This is Manono. She was a failure to thrive, thought she was a boy, got a horrible case of pox all over face and eyes and now has bad vision. SHE is an absolute joy, my favorite nanny who raised a hanai brood- was so fun to see- she is excepted by the flock and a favorite of mine who does give me eggs regular. And a total beauty.

I took a picture but I ended up taking her out and cleaning her up. She had pop stuck to her so I had to help her. But it looks brown now. I tried cleaning it up but I’m so afraid I’m making it worse.

I would hydro clean, dab dry and put back in brooder and let her be. It is fun having a miracle bird ♡

The walk sounds so delicious ♡♡♡ I have gotten out of the habit and I feel it. Need to lock Forest up and get back after it. Between him following me and being behind on sewing plus the rains... I have more excuses... like early morning coffee, lap kitties and this nice throw I have on my lap now. Makes it hard to do the right thing.

Feed store guys thought I was funny asking to pick my treat food by how cute the picture on it was

I hope you get all that feed done before this next storm today hit's. I'm supposed to get heavy rain here this afternoon, but snow will be happing in the mountain parts of AZ. The people that like to ski will love that.

I have already made sure the feed bucket and water container's are full for the flock outside. The chick's are in the house in their brooder, so not much worry about them as I'm able to keep an eye on them. The adults can just hang out in the coop if they want to.

Well... I'm used to unabsorbed yolk being from hatching too early. Too high a humidity during incubation can lead to late egg death or swollen heads in the chicks. And sticky chicks seems to me to come from too high a humidity during hatch.
I do the same as @BlueBaby ...I don't remove the egg shell and let the chick kick it off. Usually that's enough to have them fully absorb the yolk.
I also think you're doing great . Shipped eggs that got tumbled in a fall to boot...wow on live chicks at the end of it! We all lose an occasional chick Like @TropicalBabies said though, she just might make it. Keep her clean and warm with food and water and see if she amazes you .

She didn’t make it. And I didn’t assist her in her hatch either. She started working herself out while I was a sleep. I just happened to catch her coming on out. I went up to check on her and she was laying down. Her breathing was slow. I turned the duck eggs and looked in on her again. I seen her take a breath and then that was it. She was gone.

I had a hydrometer in the incubator to help me. I had it at 65%. In order to get it there I had to add 2 sponges and a wet towel. As the hatches happened and humidity got higher I took them out one at a time. I was able to keep it about 70% when the hatching started. I don’t know what else’s I could have done.
