She doesn't seem to be, as she was hungry, turned her beak up at Rice and applesauce, and has scratched shavings from one end of the crate to the other. Headed for her shower and slathering today.

All sounds very promising! Good stuff.
Does she still have exposed tissue? If so, you might want to ditch the shavings until it's healed. If they're sticking to the exposed tissue, they can contaminate it and allow other infection to set in. Just line her crate with paper instead. Of course, if it's not sticking, no need to remove it!

I meant to say yesterday, in relation to the vent gleet, just keep an eye out for it in the rest of your girls, if you have cockerels. It's not infectious per se but, like human thrush, can be contracted via sexual activity.

I'd say don't give up. You never know,, ya know?! She just may be slow absorbing her yolk. If her yolk is green I'd drop some antibiotic down her or cull.

This is Manono. She was a failure to thrive, thought she was a boy, got a horrible case of pox all over face and eyes and now has bad vision. SHE is an absolute joy, my favorite nanny who raised a hanai brood- was so fun to see- she is excepted by the flock and a favorite of mine who does give me eggs regular. Oh my! They are all so beautiful I've noticed that Ferdy and Stanley have been co-operating in herding the girls about too. It's so sweet to watch.

So, now I have a bigger problem. My Cochin died last night. Now I only have 1 lonely chick. Will this chick be ok until these others hatch, which will be in about 16 days…or should I try to find this little one a friend? I REALLY don’t want to get one from my farm store but I’m feeling like that is the only way.

I only had 3. I opened the other 2 up and they looked REALLY good. But they didn’t turn and wasn’t moving. I know my numbers isn’t great but I really think it could have been better if they didn’t get dropped.

Shipped eggs, fall or no fall, are a gamble. I've done so many and you just never know. Like @kurby22 said even rigjt on up til hatch it can go wrong....and even afterwards. Ive had 2 hatch and somehow die at same time while still in incubator.

It'll should be fine til the others hatch. Tap the food n water for it some, cuddle it some if you can keep it warm during cuddles. The ones that end up solo for a bit tend to grow up extra sweet is all.

It's a ton of snow for here...in all the years we've lived here, we've only seen that much snow once before. The rare snows we see usually melt as they fall and last about a second. This morning the trees and ground are still draped in white.
Better go check my chickens...see what they think of it!
