What did you do with your flock today?

I would go with the all flock feed so that all of them can eat it. Oyster shell can be in a container of the side that the laying hen's can freely help themselves to as to what they need.

Have you ever though of growing some microgreen's for them? I'm thinking about doing that myself. I heard that it's good for them and it cut's down on the amount of feed that they need so that you don't have to buy as much.
They don’t like the oyster shells even though I already offer it. I’m asking about the meat feed for my roosters as I don’t really plan on taking them off layer feed. At least until they decide oyster shells isn’t so bad.

What about washed and dried crushed up egg shell's?

This is the one that I have been thinking about getting because it say's that it's good for our area.

That stuff looks wonderful! I might have to buy a bag and see how well it grows just straight in the ground.

I'm no help when it comes to feed mixes. I feed layer feed to my birds as their base feed. I know it's not recommended for roosters but it's been what I've done forever. All I know is its always worked well for me...I don't tend to have birds that go through hard molts or pluck each other to eat the feathers. I know one person who mixes her own food and offers different feeds and oyster shell who's birds do have feather issues off and on. Everyone else I know here does the same as me with healthy birds. So I stick to it regardless of all I read. :idunno I'm very boring when it comes to my birds base feed. 🫣

I have an extra colorful little roo growing up. Got some pictures before I gave them their treats.

More strong winds today...with warnings of tornados this time around. Another week of no work on the backporch...makes 3 full weeks of good weather they could have worked and did not. Very frustrating but guess we need to grow some patience and wait.:thwhich I'm NOT good at:barnie

Let all the babies outta the coop and listened to the lil Buff baby Sonny "hoot, hoot" his little crow while Hank tried to remain in the coop and figure out how Sonny has been doin it LOL. All Hank can do is honk quietly!
Meanwhile poor ole bootyhead Joey has 1 lone tail feather remaining. He looks hideous. Bluey keeps pulling Joey's down feathers out then calls the girls over to eat em as a treat! Now is that strange or what?!
How long does it typically take for them to grow their new feathers back in?

Helped my middle daughter with the nursery yesterday cuz she's due first. Extremely sore after just raising my arms and pressing vinyl to the walls - daisies!
Need to figure out a time to help my oldest with her nursery before middle daughter has her baby...they are 3 weeks apart so should be interesting. She wants a very elegant looking nursery!

@kurby22 how's the coops coming along?!
You too @ChicksnMore !!!
Anyone else building coops right now?!
My DH looked at mine and helped fix an area that was comical but i hadn't been able to do anything else since.
That's one gorgeous nursery!
I've seen mine eat feathers too. They get excited about it too! They're full of protein so maybe that's why?

I don’t know that I would mix the feed myself. Treats and weeds…one thing. I’m not confident enough to mixing feed for them with what they all need. I guess these people are supposed to start doing an all flock feed but don’t have one yet. Which I’m surprised about cause they have been around a while. Maybe all the new chicken keepers. 🤷‍♀️. This business I’m going to just came about a few years ago and is the only place around that sell the local feed companies stuff. They also sell Kent so I may get the all flock from them through them.

The first picture with the $20 beside it is the one I bought for my chickens. The second one is one I’m thinking would be ok for roosters, if I’m reading this right. But it seems like nobody at this store knows what it is…per se. Any thoughts? Anyone? I haven’t seen this in the stores and since you have to have oyster shells on the side… 🤷‍♀️

Question…I wanted yo start using feed from a local feed. The mill it is made at (I think maybe this factory is only dog food) is right in my home town. There is also another about 40 min away and a few more throughout the state at least. I went in to check prices. If they were going to be more than the local farm store I wasn’t going to do it. HOWEVER it was cheaper. Not by much but enough. A bag of medicated chick feed is $21 and the layer feed is $20. Problem though, is they don’t have an All flock feed. I don’t need it for my ducks because they seriously only go through a bag a feed once a month, or longer. But I can go to tractor supply an hour away by the time they need more and do that and whatever else we are doing. I really need it though for my roosters. Here is my question, would meat bird feed be too much protein for them all? I know that my roosters aren’t going to just eat the feed I provide them separate from the layer feed and I know they girls are going to eat the feed meant for the boys. I just want to provide something different and maybe cut down on how much calcium the boys are getting.
We can't get All Flock over here so I feed grower feed with extra calcium on the side. I also use something called MinaVital which is a blend of calcium and essential minerals and vitamins with added egg food and biscuits. It smells like warm vanilla cookies! I put it out a couple of times a week and it lasts less than 10 minutes. Gladys goes insane over it.
I also mix a seed only mix for Ferdy and Stan. They get it on a night before bed, just to ensure they've eaten enough. Ferdy basically doesn't eat much during the day as he's more interested in feeding the ladies.
