What did you do with your flock today?

This morning the sky is beautiful. A glorious pink mackerel. My phone won't catch it so can not share.
Yesterday with dh's help I made a big dent out of my bag stash or bag stash nightmare. The thing I was supposed to do when he was on holiday cept we only had rain so I could not. It started out with the brewery text saying they had 100 bags for me to come pick up.View attachment 3458757
Got those all destrung and under control then dh came to help and we set up tables and a rubbish can and destrung for hours lolView attachment 3458763View attachment 3458765View attachment 3458764
I am about 1/3rd of the way through.... does anyone remember when I was excited about getting and making it through 26 bags? I do... good times.
Just think of how many bags were rescued from the landfill :ya :jumpy:jumpy:ya:clap:thumbsup lots of work to do.
@ChicksnMore I sewed another one of yours ♡♡♡ an absolute beauty! Thank you so much for giving me diversity. So needed with my mountain of the same ol, same ol. It really helps to light the fire in me and keep interest with the locals. Just priceless. I have your box almost ready. Sorry I am slow to return, things not going as planned but will make it to town today to pick up what I need to send it out ♡♡♡View attachment 3458767

I think we have more rain coming our way and the beautiful pink sky this morning is kind of seconding it. If I see and Eva fly overhead I will check the weather as it will most likely be a forsure, just how wet do we get!?
Till then, coffee is wonderful and all is well. Spider is healing up fine and so is Koke'e boy. All girls good though I am sure the reproductive issues will be causing troubles. L. Ruby is still laying softshelled. I have a few more tricks to try as I had leaned towards it was bad feed they got a hold of. I will give her another good deworming and then dose her 600mg calcium everyday to see if she can turn around. 🤞 She outwardly seems fine...
Wow, what a production! Love the chick starter bag. Coffee sure is wonderful, and you do have some good growers over there.

Ended up working on my pond yesterday. The annual sludge cleanings done and then I got frisky and decided to start rearranging rocks and logs around the pond. I don't know if it's age, laziness or wisdom...but I looked at some of the rocks etc that I originally put there and thought oi...I need help to move that! That thought didn't occur to me when I did it by myself before. I told my mom and she said it's wisdom, so I'm sticking to that. 🤣🤣🤣 I did knuckle down and get the biggest rock moved and one large log. Decided to wait for help on the biggest log.
Ducks will be happy though! More room to play now and a wider entrance to the pond. I used to have hundreds of visible mosquito fish in there, but after two years of duck visits they're scarce. I have them in my pond buckets still though so going to catch some to restock the pond today. Think I need to reduce duck visits to no more then an hour each time. Poor ducky's.
Unwise people do not get to have gray hairs. So glad to be alive to ask for help. In the same boat as you. Having one useful hand has me asking for help. Often.

@PopoMyers It happens. Chickens are beautiful fragile beings. Was she laying soft shell eggs prior or was someone?

Fortunately and unfortunately the more losses we have the better we get at spotting stuff sooner. One of the things that I think has helped me immensely is syringe feeding the minute they go off food. It buys me time to figure it out. She may very well have had coccidiosis or...? I'm sorry ♡♡♡
I love that @Shetland does a float every year. That is a terrific habbit.
Also my best worming is when I grab the chooks, usually in the eves and put it down their throats. Sometimes it takes me a few days to check all off my list but it gave us better results than the bread.
Don't beat yourself up. You are a wonderful observant mom, this pain will pass :hugs 💕
There may have been a few soft shelled, now that you've mentioned it. I really don't know who lays what, and when, unless I've had them captive for awhile. You do remember the inconsistent places of laying, right?
Sadly, it's difficult to grab them off the roost, due to coop design. I might try to catch them one by one as they try to come through the door.

Is there any chance Pua could have had access to water with algae in it?
Everyone drinks the same water. But, one never knows if she found some puddled in the outside run. I will admit that I'm not very diligent about scrubbing out the water bucket, which is an auto fill nipple bucket. Is algae poisonous? Or just certain kinds? Do tell.

Thank you!
It's really sore today. I think I've been over-using my shoulder if I'm honest.
Enjoy your trip to Hawaii. It will wonderful!
Need to have a 2 emoji reply. Sad that you're in pain. Those teenage feelings of invincibility sure dissipate over the years, huh? Please don't overdo, as I've heard recently. Need to avoid surgery.
😊 for the trip well wishes. On a side note, do you have any favorite recipes for full tea, scones or other delights? I am in charge of the food for one at our church a month from today.

5 Bucks is impressive! g-pa spending $150 makes for a better story (it was probably more like $75 but as the years went by became more 🤣🤣🤣) I personally don't like when people retell stories (over and over 🙄...) but it obviously works for them. My dh-s family likes to talk a lot about not much at all. It is like an anxiety thing. Like if they don't get it out of their head they will pop. Not so much fun for the other party especially me. I don't come from chatty people. Well, someone has to listen but I find I mostly try to avoid. Another good reason to keep chickens.
His story has kept up with inflation, g-ma didn't. You may get a chuckle out of this next fact. The machine I currently have actually was my DH's. Many boats back,🚤🛥️🚣‍♀️, he wanted to sew a canvas top to replace the worn out one. He did a fantastic job on this belt driven machine that he paid over $300 for, probably back in the early 2000's. It powers through several layers of canvas without skipping a beat. Sews leather, too.
He fed to chooks and collected eggs today.

Only on Kauai...

it will get bought up quick. Thank you again @ChicksnMore 🥰

Went to clean nest boxes today and found the same hen as yesterday all hunkered down and ready to get serious about hatching. Ooo you shoulda seen how mad she got when I started cleaning! She fussed and pecked and fussed some more. I came back with fresh bedding and she was stomping around the nest box still complaining about mean ol me!
Gotta love spring!
