What did you do with your flock today?

Day Five tomorrow of owning our first ever chickens. All girls. We are having fun with them. We do need to get a catch tray for all the food they throw on the ground. We did notice, however, that they are eating a lot of the crumble that is on the ground, but we still need to capture all the food they throw around.

We installed a swing in the run area, and my beautiful wife made a "balance beam" out of a log, and also a makeshift ladder out of various pieces of firewood. The girls are loving that, but they haven't been up on the swing yet.

We received our "coop cameras" from UPS today, so I'll be installing those probably tomorrow. We also received some solar, motion-activated security lights to put up around the coop and run. Something knocked over the poop collection bucket (it's outside the run) last night, but there were no indications anywhere that whatever it was had any interest in the chickens.
Sounds like you are well on your way ♥︎
Not sure what would knock a bucket over but that would make me nervous.
Hope you are well buttoned up incase whatever comes back.
You will have fun with the cameras
🌴😀🤙

Today I got my husband to help me with adding some more room for the 2 girls to get around in. They are in a rabbit hutch and I put a metal playpen around it on end. I added the 2nd to keep them from getting bored. We sealed the top with wire and zip ties. I cleaned the coop and waterers and food dish. I also picked up some mulberries and gave them some of those too.
Sounds like a good day 😊

Hello! This is a place to post pictures/talk about what you and your flock have done today.

I was on a zoom call earlier and Iris, my rooster, decided to stand behind me and crow repeatedly. Thankfully I was on mute, but it was still annoying. They couldn’t see him, but they could see me trying to make him quiet, which was a little embarrassing.
Here’s a pic of my boy with some mini roses.

What about you guys? Have you done anything interesting with your flock today?

Here are a few pictures of my birds.

I have hanging baskets outside the pens so I tend to drop dying blooms and flowers for them. Today, I watched the ducks eat away at the stems while my Orpingtons, Sunny and Goldie, played tug of war for a petal! I always forget to bring my phone so here's just a pic of Goldie sunbathing. She likes to lay in the sun while the ducks frolic in their pool.

Coop cameras sound so fun and helpful. Hoping your poop bucket scatterer was just a stray cat nosing around or something safe at any rate.

Love the flower tug of war! I can see why you named her Goldie ❤️
My girls, the coop and run.
Lovely ladies there!
Thanks! I think they will make my Barred Rock pullets happy and secure.
They should once they get past the introductions!

I almost always do staggered hatches. They'll go into the other incubator for hatching...I have little cardboard boxes I add for hatching so it doesn't make a big mess in the incubator.

Domestic chick shortage...cabinet incubator...tons of fertile eggs...man, you have will power! 🤣

Move out day for babies is always sweet ❤️

Cute kitty ❤️ Hope your able to catch him and get him and get him help.
How's your thumb feeling? Glad the therapy is starting and hope it helps fast.
No more pain, working on therapy, function is pretty good. Thanks for asking 🙂

Broody is broken. Let her out and she is all good. I am finally done planting and transplanting, hopefully new seeds and sprouts survive. I have another that is not wanting anyone else in the coop while she is in a nesting box. Little grump! Back up to 8 eggs today.
I have a fuschia hanging on my porch, which has a bird nest with 4 eggs. This afternoon, found a lot of broken branches on the porch, and in the plant. Usually the mama bird is scolding anytime we get near. No mama or daddy bird to be heard. As I inspect closer, I find Sam's fur on the end of a broken branch. I think he had an afternoon snack. :hit
