What did you do with your flock today?

Glad you made it home safe and enjoyed a quick getaway! ❤️

The weather report for Rocky Point was dire! 😆 Glad you survived haha. I’m confused though—Rocky Point appears to be quite a ways from the ocean?? Did you go to Mexico for the day? It looks beautiful though 😍

I don’t feel great, but I feel at least 80%. Not bad after feeling like death on Thursday and Friday 😆 I feel okay until I try to do things and then I’m just so tired.
Rocky Points actually right at the ocean in Mexico. It's also called Puerto Penasco...I might have misspelled that. We stay right at the beach and usually just play in the ocean. It's been an annual family mini getaway for years.

COVID sounds awful! No one in my immediate families caught it yet! Well, unless you ask hubby...he swears we all caught it right at the beginning. He might be right but who knows. Not sure how we've been so lucky but glad of it.

Really glad everyone there's recovering now!

Spent a little time with the chickens this morning while we got a bit of drizzle from Hurricane Hilary. It’s muggy, but cloudy with a lovely breeze and a smattering of rain. Feels quite nice, wish it would stay a bit longer! 😍

I love this little dude—he’s gonna be one of my bantam Lav cuckoo EE roosters. I decided to name him Colonel Mustard hehe. He’s super sweet and Aria loves him of course.

This guy is Professor Plum, and will also be in my EE flock. He has fantastic barring but his beard isn’t as impressive. I also think he has better potential to use for my d’Anver line if I want barring. He has nice body type.

This girl is Ms Scarlett and while she was supposed to be a Watermaal, she has no crest and a normal rose comb, so I need to figure out what to do about her :) She is tiny, has nice tight feathering, and a beautiful feather sheen 😍😍

And Cookie is doing such a good job mothering her brood. I really love watching them mother the babies.

Must just be the Apple Map, it shows it in the mountains so it must not be looking in the right spot 😁 It looks like a wonderful spot! I can see why you love it 😍😍

Yeah I was feeling happy we had avoided it…and I hope that you are able to as well! It hits hard and fast.

Such beautiful birds 😍
Thanks ☺️

I finally came up with a way to give the babies more space more of the time. It’s just temporary until they grow out enough to manage the ladder and such so rats won’t eat them :) I built an apartment complex haha. Won’t be weighed down by heavy bedding or heavy waterers, but shud handle tiny d’Anvers! Before winter I will secure the roof and brace the sides with some t posts and maybe attach temporary siding, but I feel like it will suffice for maybe 2 months of grow out time :) Hoping this limits rat issues and the downstairs neighbors aren’t too rowdy for the momma and babies 😆🤦🏼‍♀️

O I like! Is that quail below? Looks like a good set up... can't wait to see pictures of the pretties in it! ❤️

Thanks! Yes, the quail are downstairs! I added a bunch more fake foliage so they can burrow at night and feel safe :) Figure if they can’t be seen, they might get left alone?? Wishful thinking maybe? I will learn the hard way I suppose. Gonna get bedding tomorrow and affix the waterer so they can have more space everyday instead of just a few hours/day.

That's beautiful ❤️. I grew up with livestock chickens. When we got our first chicken here in AZ, we'd gone to the pumpkin farm to pick pumpkins and they had been selling chicks. They had one chick left and a little toddler still in diapers was holding it by the neck with no adult intervening. So I took the baby away from the baby and bought it. By the time we got home, the little chick was certain my oldest, Kimi, was momma. Her and that chicken were inseparable for years. She'd walk outside and call and Esmeralda would come running like a puppy. Kimi would squat down, hold open her arms, and Essie would run up between Kimi's legs, drape her neck over Kimi's knee and close her eyes. If you saw it, you'd be certain that chicken was hugging Kimi. I'd never seen such a loving chicken before...it was a beautiful thing to watch. Your Ferdy sounds just like Essie...he knows who loves him and how to communicate with you ❤️
Awww, that's so beautiful! I'm certain Esmeralda was hugging Kimi ❤
