What did you do with your flock today?

Sent you a PM.
Thanks! Got it.

Very good job, hope she recovers from that Uber jumbo egg! Over time, you may get less of them. One of mine started out that way. Now all of them are large to jumbo, no more double yolks. Those girls are now 1.5 years old.
Whichever one it was doesn't seem any worse for wear. None of them are walking funny. LOL

I came way closer this afternoon to a tragic accident with one of my favorite little chickens. It's supposed to be a roo but tames and acts like a little pullet. Honey comes when called and will fly up to my shoulder expecting a treat even if just one beak full. The wife and I were taking up a Big Boston Butt roast off of the kettle grill and just as we start my wife screams she's expecting a treat and there she was perched on the side of the bottom of the kettle grill. Out of reflex I back handed her and sent her sailing. She only got her feelings hurt and I was scared for her out of my mind. We got the meat in and I got one of her favorite treats. After I found her she finally came close enough to see it was a treat. It took some doing but she trusts me again now. I just couldn't let her go on her roost with those negative thoughts in her head. This was the first time we've grilled since we've had chickens and now we know we need a screened enclosure to protect any that are free ranging when we do grill.

What a scary experience! They are curious little critters, for sure. I'm glad she is okay and has forgiven you for the indignity of the moment.

I gave my chickens about an hour of supervised foraging time tonight. They're so used to me letting them out in the evenings that when I walk by late in the day, they all come running to the run door expecting me to open it. I feel kind of sorry keeping them cooped up all day without a little free time to eat grass and bugs.

I didn't see any coyotes, which is good. But I did what I could to keep them close to the house.

Did not check eggs yesterday, so today had 10. I am trying to get to the poo more often, and found that my very long pair of bbq tongs works quite well to just get the waste without all the shavings. Going to start dumping it onto the empty garden beds to age until Spring. Now that there are definite places where they roost, I've moved shavings onto those areas to absorb moisture. Think I am going to have to protect that side when the rains begin, if they insist on continuing to roost there.
One of my girls seems to have thrown a lot of her feathers overnight. From nice to raggedy looking. Here we go.

I recently got a short hose made of metal, love how it doesn't kink. Would that type of hose be less vulnerable to hail damage?
Heh... I just saw this. I think it would depend in the hail, but I haven't seen hoses made of metal. I'm going to look them up.

For reference, my cars have some pretty sweet dents right now, but at least the windows weren't broken this time.

Thank you for the suggestion!

I can't imagine such crazy weather. Your roofs must take a beating... at least they try to give you some warning right?
