What did you do with your flock today?

Got in a bit of chicken time today but not much (soccer in the morning and football to watch in the afternoon!).

Gave Soup a bath and let her coop out for some free time and oversaw the children while they filled feeders and waterers! Then we let the fancy pants chickens out for awhile…they really do make you think of old time gentlemen and ladies in a Jane Austen novel in petticoats and parasols 😍

And lastly, I put together a hammock bed for Shadow (for those short times he’s indoors 😉) and Aria decided he needed stuffies to sleep with like she does. 🥰

They're all such beautiful ladies and gentlemen!
How lovely of Aria to think Shadow might be lonely in bed! Has she actually left room for him to lie down though? 🤣

Went to the allotment yesterday to drop off some mulch and pick beans and corn. Took the chickens down and Gladys devoured a large frog. I was not impressed as the frogs are under threat. I was also very unimpressed with Pru's behaviour too. She escaped and had a tryst with Brian, the buff orpington roo 2 allotments away. Ferdy was going frantic as he thought he'd 'misplaced' a hen somewhere and Stan ran around moaning for about 15 mins. Tattle-tale Penelope 'told' me where she'd gone by jumping on my shoulder and repeatedly pecking me in the face whilst screaming loudly in Pru's direction 🤣

No grapes for naughty Pru yesterday but I guess the heart wants what the heart wants....

We just finished putting a proper roost up for the Dark Cornish girls and boys. My daughter came in the coop with me carrying a piece of the new structure and they all went crazy. They don't like strangers one little bit. They are worse than the Delaware girls. I'll have to take the hose out to the log pile tonight to get them back in most likely. They better like it or I keep them locked up in there until they do because I nearly destroyed a quad muscle in my left leg squatting down to put screws in. I don't think I'll tackle anything else today. Need the rest. Daughter will be back in two weeks to stir up more trouble but they will get over it. They better get used to her feeding and watering them some of the time. We have to build another permanent roost in a coop with 16 RIR pullets that just started laying that are going to the auction if it pans out. The entire laying flock is going to be sold off and the pets kept along with some rarer breeds kept for producing hatching eggs.

I know, I asked Aria where she excepted him to sleep 😆 She’s all, he has lots of room Mommy, he can use them as pillows!

One of my white giant pullets thought she could go back to her free range status and I wouldn't notice. There she was on her favorite roost. Now all of the white giant coop is on lock down for a couple weeks. So are the dark Cornish after the stunt the pulled escaping the coop today. I booted an bully rooster out of the youngest group of misfits for attacking every other chick in there. He is 3 times as big as the rest of them and extremely hormonal. I think he is a red ranger of some kind judging by the size of his legs and his wide breast. He can run fast so he has no cornish in him. Time will reveal what will be.

I lost B on Friday. I think she was struggling with an egg and it has been so crappy hot that she did not make it.
I was not around to know of her distress. DH got tossed off of Hombre and broke his hip. So, had to get him sorted, found B the next morning. Rather heart broken about it. All my young pullets and cockerels are panting and suffering from the heat. I'm afraid I am going to lose more b4 it cools.
Have not been able to stay home and care for chooks. Been back and fourth to the hospital for DH. He is good, had surgery and is going to be released tomorrow.
His chores have fallen on me along with my condo full of kittens, bags, AJ, cats, dog and horse and next week trapping again. :barnie
I did pick up Lahaina son up and he spent one day in town with me. That made my day better. He finally got his glasses and I got his bike safety checked and tomorrow I hope to make it to the dmv. But, priority is picking DH up and AJs blood tests. Another busy day tomorrow.

Checking the chooks I found a hidden nest. Bonus! 10 feral eggs and a moonlighting Joy with her 3 pretty green eggs.

Shocking to NOT find a broody sitting.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. It never rains but pours, does it? I'm so sorry you lost B, l know how much she meant to you.
I've got a sick Penelope on my hands. Hardly saw them yesterday due to family Sunday lunch at mom's but she was fine before we left. Came home and decided she wa a little wheezy. By the time I took Ferdy to bed, she was coughing badly. She's been doped up on antibiotics, pain-relieved, vitamin dosed and had Vet RX rubbed in every conceivable place I could think of. She seems a bit happier this morning and is going to get nebulised shortly.
Hope your DH makes a great recovery and you don't lose anyone else ❤❤❤

I store our dog toys in the biggest dog bed we have and they do plop right down and cuddle in...just wish they'd learn to put their toys away 😂. How's Shadow like his extra fluffy, lumpy bed? That's so sweet of Aria!
