What did you do with your flock today?

What can I do for her? Labored breathing, cannot balance to sit up, cannot hold head up.

:hitI had the chooks on the other side of the run, since the main coop was drying from mite treatment yesterday. Something got in last night and killed 6, injured this one. Just a small amount of blood on her neck, but no other outward injuries.

So frustrating. Makes me want to give up.
Could she still be in shock?
Just from what you have mentioned-
I'd put her in a quiet warm place with a friend, give electrolytes, soft favorite foods and hope 🙏.
Can't treats wounds you can't find. Maybe she just needs to settle.

I am so, so sorry @PopoMyers :hugs💕
Something has certainly tuned into your chickens. Obviously, your coop is secure. You have so much to offer. This is just a tough spell. It will pass ♡♡♡

I let the girls and boy out to freerange at around 3:00. Kind of warm today but with a nice breeze. Visually the chooks were fine, so I stayed busy with my deferred housework. Family is coming for DH's bday on Friday 🎉

Finished my day with a long overdue truck wash. My "truck gecko" came out for a drink but quickly disappeared back into the engine compartment when finished. Obviously, I must have a lot of bugs around my truck cuz someone has gotten pretty phat.View attachment 3674243
☝️ Thought I'd share a photo of him and a Picasso selfie of me for fun, 🤪

Very sure my chooks are thrilled to be home. Wish they would start laying eggs though. Jellybeans may have just started her molt 😕 deep sigh. She lost a beakful of feathers rather easily from Beetle.

Looking forward to plugging away at more housework tomorrow. Love a clean and semi organized home.

Spider's ferals hanging with Beetle's flock 🐔💕 Maybe they will give me some eggs... soon.View attachment 3674246
Love your truck gecko and Picasso selfie 😍❤️

I just let everyone out and Penelope, instead of going straight for breakfast, ran around the back of her coop and came back with a baby rat! She swiftly dispatched it by standing on the body and pulling at the head until it's neck dislocated. By this time everyone else was up and a "Benny Hill" style chase ensued around the garden. I wish I'd taken my camera with me this morning 🤣
Dang she’s pretty street for a fancy feathered gentlewoman! 😆😆

I gave her water with an eyedropper. I can make some sugar/ salt water for now. It's a bit hard to have a friend with her.

Oh noooo @PopoMyers I'm sooo sorry! I would do what @TropicalBabies suggested and start by treating her for shock and see how she does overnight. You might consider a general antibiotic like amoxicillin or tetracycline in case there are internal things you can’t see or a scratch that’s hidden from you? I hope she makes it ❤️ Big hugs! I understand the feelings of wanting to give up, chickening is hard. Focus on what you can do and how much you have to offer them and remember you’re a great chicken mom ❤️❤️❤️ Hugs friend ❤️❤️❤️

If you have raw honey, I'd give her that. Typically incase of shock I'll mix raw egg with raw honey and just a bit of water so I can drop it into their beak.

I'm so sorry you had that happen! I know the rough days make chicken keeping seem impossible... But as tropical babies said, this too shall pass.

Good luck! Keep us updated!

It finally was warm enough early enough to let the chickens out of the coop before noon today! (We got a drastic drop in temps late last week, and it's only now warming back up.) ... My chickens don't deal well with going from 80⁰ to 30⁰ in a few days, so they have to put up with getting locked in the coop while I ease their weather transition.

I sold 6 chicks today. Apparently one of my neighbors wanted chickens. She's new to chicken keeping, so I told her to feel free to ask for advice. She seems super sweet... But I always worry when I give my birds to a new home! Here's a weekish old pic of the chicks.

Otherwise life was pretty normal. Fed, watered, loved on birds. Found out one of my roosters is high stepping with one leg when he trots. I figure I'll separate him out if it doesn't get better in a few days.

Thanks so much for the encouraging words. I made some electrolyte solution and eyedroppered probably a couple teaspoons or so in her. She was making small, weak sounds. Her eyes are bright and responsive. I hope she makes it through the night. She can kick her legs, she tries to move her head but cannot control it. She's laying on her side quietly. I have her in a box in my room. I'll have to see what kind of antibiotic TSC has. I think there may a couple small puncture holes, but no blood. Skin deep. She was one of my original flock in 2020.

It is late, I will try this in the morning. Thank you.

Poor baby! I don't think there's a lot you can do at this stage. I'd keep her comfortable, warm and in the semi-dark for now. Give her a dose of electrolytes mixed with a multi vitamin and hope she pulls round. If she has a special friend, I'd put them in together. They seem to find a lot of comfort from that, I've found and if it's shock might help her get over it.

Any idea what's targeting your chickens?
