What did you do with your flock today?

Aww, too cute! I have a part-time house chicken - my little cockerel, Ferdy. He spends most evenings perched on my shoulder and just lets himself (and usually the rest of the flock!) in during the day, when he feels like it. He's even mastered the stairs to the second floor so you never know where you'll find him. Good job he's house trained! View attachment 3744658
Aw he is so cute. Lol my little Peppermint is the opposite xD she is a part time outdoor chicken lol but spends 98% of her time in the house and doesn't even sleep in a coop. She (and her brother and sister who are also indoor chickens) sleep/live in a playpen in my bedroom. I wish they were more house trained though lol

I think Ferdy would sleep in the house if he could but my DH draws the line at that. He thinks it'll just be a matter of time before Ferdy's sharing our bed. He's probably right!
At the moment, I have his sister, Penelope, and his son, Stanley, as permanent house chickens. Penelope is recuperating from a terrible bout of round and tapeworm as well as severe anaemia and I discovered Stan had lost a toenail earlier in the week. I can't get a dressing to stay on and it's so wet and muddy out, I haven't got a hope of keeping it clean. Wish those two were house trained, I can tell you! 🤣

I had my mom freaking out with this photo, she was convinced he was dead! 🤣

Excuse the dandruff, we'd been releasing pin feathers.

I drove down to the store to pick up beer for the Super Bowl, saw a garden seed display outside and also bought seeds: Danver's half long carrot and Early Jalapeno pepper seeds for short growing seasons. These things have nothing to do with my chickens.

What does involve my chickens is that I carried home a banana box of produce scraps and waste. Lots of lettuce leaves and tomatoes, plus a whole canteloupe.

Canteloupe is new to my chickens. I gave them half with the seeds and found they really, really like canteloupe!

I grew cantaloupe last year, the flock LOVED the slimy seeds, even more than watermelon.

I brought my big Legs boy inside tonight for some conversation and treat time. He sat in my lap like a gentleman and had no interest in getting down. He got half a slice of soft bread and a little time to look at hens on my monitor. He was not impressed and really was not impressed when I showed him a picture of himself sitting in my lap. He really didn't like the other rooster sitting with me. He is a real crazy rooster that just turned 8 months old and is very heavy and close to 2 foot tall. I need to measure him and weight him tomorrow if he will cooperate. I know he will if I take him off the roost after dark.

All mine love any type of melon, especially the seeds. Watermelon is their favourite though. My allotment neighbour grew them outdoors last year, they grew to approximately the size of a small canteloupe. Not really worth the space and effort while watermelons were relatively cheap but given the price hikes last year, I may give them a go on our compost heaps.
