What did you have to learn the hard way? (management stuff)

I learned that my chickens don't REALLY eat 50lbs of feed per week.

It's all on the floor in the coop.

I've learned that the best way to let a fox steal your chickens is to let them free range under the trees. . .

I've learned that it is NOT a good idea to let the dogs eat whole chicken eggs as the ducks can no longer find a safe place to nest. . .

I've learned not to leave string in the chicken yard where a good layer can tangle her feet in. . .

I've learned that chickens are very good roto-tillers but hard on perennials. . .

I've learned that mixing my own feed is VERY hard but rewarding work. . .

and I've learned that not everyone thinks as I do, that chickens are wonderful creatures!

I've learned that the dog is only partially attentive to keeping chickens out of the tomato garden, and generally only when I'm watching.

I've also learned that a German Shepherd Dog chasing a chicken out of your tomato garden can be worse than having a chicken in your tomato garden!

I've learned that chickens will always go for that big pink Brandywine that you were planning to pick tomorrow after one more day of ripening, and will ignore that partially green hybrid that already fell to the ground and would have ended up in their run tomorrow morning anyway.
