What Diseases is it Possible to Contract From Eggs?

My hen laid her first clutch! I'm interested in eating them or giving them to a few people to eat, but I thought I should find out what kind of diseases it is possible for a human to contract from eating a chicken egg. As far as I can tell my chickens are healthy and disease free, but just to be safe I'd like to know what diseases they could have that would be present in their eggs and could infect a human.

Could anyone help me with this?

Salmonella is really your biggest risk. As always, wash your eggs before giving them to someone else. If they undercook them, that's on them.

if you are concerned there are state and federal programs run by the state university that will test a flock free of charge for saminella.

i would be more concerned what those yucky grocery store eggs have in them!

Some of the shells have dirt/markings on them that are very tough to clean off without risking damage. Would it be prudent not to consume these eggs, or to what extent should they be cleaned?

Food poisoning caused by campylobacter jejuni or the microorganism listeria monocytogenes are passed to humans when eggs are not fully cooked. Salmonella as mentioned. To me one of the most important things that you need to do first is collect the eggs daily. That would lesson the chance of any diseases!!
