What do baby chicks eat?

For the past week I have fallen into the obsession of incubating and hatching eggs. I just ordered some orphingtons and my day brought up a good point: what will you feed them when you hatch. I'm a spur of the moment type of person and havent thought that far. So what do they eat?

There's a whole lot more that they will need so I'd suggest you need to do some quick planning before they get here.

It's funny that today a friend and I were discussing folks who do this very same thing. Please do some research before you get chicks. This sort of thing is putting the "cart before the horse". I just don't understand why folks do this. Maybe there is a good explanation and we're not seeing it?

I had to get the eggs for a class im teaching so I had to order them right away. At least I got a good incubator.

Well then if your a teacher that makes it even more perplexing that you would not have researched having chicks before embarking on this endeavor. I suggest you go to the library and get some books on raising chicks.

well here's a list of things you will need :

1. a brooder if you don't have one
2 . 1 brooder lamp with red or white bulb . preferably red.
3. 1 50 lbs bag of chick starter
4. 2 feeders and 2 waterers
5. pine shavings for litter

thats it i think ..........
