Hello, do bright red combs mean the hens will start laying again, or is it just the cold? There is heat in the coop and I have a light on to make up for the shorter day length. They are about a year and a half and stopped laying over the summer. 1 molted, but the other 2 didn't. Any info would be appreciated

Usually when they are getting ready to lay again, the combs turn bright red. That's how I was able to tell when my babies were old enough to start laying. A couple of them just started laying their first eggs about 3 days ago!! The ones that are not laying right now, have pale combs.

Thanks for the info... I am really trying to get them to start laying again. they are healthy, happy chickens. No mites or health problems that I know of, poop is good. Its sad when I have to go to the store to buy eggs
