I was curious to know what goes through a chickens mind during a thunderstorm, especially at night in the coop. Does it scare them?, or do they know whats going on?

I have watched mine when they are out and about. A storm will come up with lightning and thunder. They don't seem to mind. I have to herd mine out of the way on the lawn tractor to mow the grass. Noise doesn't seem to bother them.

I once ran out to put mine in the coop when a thunderstorm came up, and found one standing on the coop roof happily admiring the light show! She was quite put out with me for making her get inside the coop, too. I took that to mean that no, mine at least are not frightened by thunderstorms.

We've only had about three thunderstorms in the 10+ years I've had this flock of chickens, but I don't remember them even giving the sky a second glance during the storms. They didn't even care if they got wet, they just shook it off.
