What do chicks do in the heat and the cold?

I live in AL and have my 6 chicks in a container in a tub. I have a regular light bulb over them, they've been here for a week now and i havent changed anything. Is this bad? They seem happy and more open to me and each other.

So what do chickens do when they are hot or cold?

if they are cold they will huddle under the light together and if they are hot they will huddle on the side away from the light. they pretty much tell you what they need and if they are spread out then its perfect Also i heard white lights arent good for them, heard they destrub their sleeping patterns, I use a red flood lamp on mine.
