What do ducks have against clean water??????

To be fair, I had a duck "Shiver-me-timbers" Or just Timber, who would shimmy and shake with excitement to see me. He would run and jump on my lap, and if a hen came by he would chase her away. Also he would hold his droppings until he hopped off my lap. Such a gentleman.

ok - I just don't get it...clean water ......poof! They fill it with dirt or anything else to get it icky

Ha it’s like clean water offends them

My female Pekin Peep will just stand in the water dish. And She will lay down and sleep in it at night.
Nothing like putting down a nice bowl of water and she just ups and lays down in it with her dirty feet and belly and splashes half of it out of the bowl heh

The worst is when they pass a “broody poop” (aka, they saved it up all day/night just for this moment) in a freshly cleaned pool.
One broody poop destroys any attempt to have something nice for the others to swim in. I actually have a smaller pool that I encourage the ducks to go into first as it is easier to dump, and my hope is that they will poop in the small pool and not in the big pool. Sadly, they manage to poop in both, even within minutes. I’m actually procrastinating cleaning the pools right now. After all, why bother?! I will say that I recently got a power washer that I use to clean the pools after emptying them. It’s very satisfying to use.

There is no hope for ducks and clean water. My 4 day old Muscovy ducklings have already decided this is a water bowl and swimming pool.
