My mom just told me that our friend saw a cougar on the far side of our neighbors property (which isn't that far away) and I am very worried about all my animals I have 2 dogs (a lab and a pug/maltese mix), 1 tame cat, 2 sort of wild momma cats, 3 kittens, 9 ducks (only three are trained to go in a pen at night) and a precious Netherland dwarf bunny. I am very worried and I was wondering if anyone had any idea about protecting my animals? please help.

i would kepp all animals inside if possible and kepp ducks inside the pin and if you can get hot wier fince and put it around the pen. If you see the couger on your land stay inside and shoot near it not at it and keep all animals inside at all times and when your dogs need to go to the bathroom put them aon a leash and keep them near you. Hope i helped!

When living in the country or the edge of town predators are part of the mix. Even living in town you have predator problems. The cougar is looking for food - its natural. This time of year there might be cubs needing fed or its a young male looking for its own territory. Do what you can to keep yourself & animals safe. Keep your animals inside or in secure outdoor enclosures. Your dogs should be kept on a leash. Best of luck.

I would suggest a lgd livestock guardian dog. They are breed to protect against things like cougars wolves and such. I know its scary to think of your pet out there all alone. We have about 40- 50 different varies of birds(chickens turkeys ducks geese ect.) We have one lgd a great Pyrenees Anatolian Shepard mix male he is about 6 months old. a wolf hybrid who is 12 and a 2 year old blue healer our herder.

They all work as a team and with any signs of intruders they start to bark. and smells anything. our lgd stays with his flock and runs back and forth making sure everyone is ok while they other two go find out what was making the noise. It is very interesting to watch. I think our lgd was our best investment ever.

We let our birds all free range during the day and the duck pond is about 100 yard away from house our lgd follows them down there and has made a bed on a hill next to the pond and watches over them.

we pen all the birds at night and the dogs come in. but they alert us when there is trouble out side. and we let them out to make sure all is well.
Our lgd also know exacly how many birds we have he makes sure they are all in at night and does not stop looking until the last one is found.
we thought they were all in one night and went in for dinner he stayed out side when we came out to feed the pigs he have a baby chicken in the corner of the pen watching it until we put him in. It amazed us that he knew there was one more to get.
