What Do I Do? Cancel Reshipment?

Do you really need the packing peanuts? If you don't have them, get a couple extra hens the hens will be easier to rehome on CL than a rooster. You can get roo roos at any feed store. That is just an idea.

29.... WOW! My DH would kill me. However.... to a lot of people who have larger flocks... that is not that... many...

Def don't need the packing peanuts, but the last time I ordered 25 hens so that we'd only keep 15 and sell the other 10...well we only sold 4 of them and I planned to keep the other 21 LOL...

I've already been searching for some local chicks and might have found some Welsummer ones - a breed I wanted for the dark brown eggs, but no hatcheries had them available - so that'd be neat. Still in search of the white silkie but mgiht have a lead on that. DH won't even notice if they show up in the brooder...at least not for a couple days!!

Speaking of which - is it ok to introduce new chickies to our current flock (say 1-3 week difference in age) - based on possible contamination?? I know ppl always suggest to quaranteen adult chickens, but no one ever mentions having to do that with babies...

Packing peanuts are extra chicks (usually roos) added to keep the rest warm in transit.

DH is Dear Hubby or any other "D" word depending on how you feel about him today!

Do you get charged for the extra peanuts?

Chickadee, "packing peanuts" are usually included free of charge to add warmth to the chicks you've ordered. They aren't always male... I read somewhere here that someone got a bunch of buff Silkie pullets as her extras! But the males are cheaper, so in they go.

OP, I'm sorry your DH had you cancel the order. One other way to look at it, and one that makes me cringe, is that Easter isn't that far away. Baby chicks, sold with a baggie of proper chick starter and instructions on how to raise them, are pretty popular purchases. That's how I got my first chicks, more than 35 years ago! However, that's what makes me cringe. The farm where we got my dozen chicks (yep, a dozen!) just put them in a box and sold them to us. No feed, no instructions, nothing about heating, nothing. I ended up giving all but the little roo, Groucho, away. If you had extra chicks, roo or pullet, an *educational* chick sale for Easter could be an option. Or put up signs at your local feed store or on Craigslist. Good luck with the little peeps you have!
