What do I do with one surviving chicken?

Two of my chickens in a flock of three were attacked and killed last night by what appears to be foxes. The roost door was left open and only one survived with a major loss in feathers, but no obvious injuries. I'm grieving over the loss as I was very attached to each one, but I now fear for the health of my surviving hen. She is in what appears to be shock and grief over her flock's death and I'm not exactly sure what to do with her. She is somewhat old at 4 years old and I'm considering making her a house chicken or possibly looking for a new home with another flock belonging to a friend. I would be thankful for any suggestions on this matter, as I am still quite traumatized.

I am so sad to hear of your loss! I lost one hen to a fox a few months ago and found her remains in my backyard. I was in a puddle of tears for awhile; I completely sympathize with you.
I would advise rehoming her with some gentle and docile chickens. That might be your best plan. I hope this works out for you.

Give it a couple of days to sink in and give yourself a chance to think about it. What you do will depend on what you want to do. Do you still want to keep chickens? Would you be happy keeping up with a house chicken? If you are done with chickens then give her away. You could add more younger chickens to your coop if you are still content with keeping them.
