what do i do with this stray dog?

Post a sign that says

"dumped animal life expectancy 3 days"

Then a silhouette of a gun on the sign... possible fewer dumped animals...

where does he sleep- you might could get him then (capture/shot)

Now, I like the idea of the "dumped animal" sign. We should have had that at my childhood home in Rockwall. We were definitely a dumping station.

Hard situation to be in, being an animal lover myself, but I think I would do whatever necessary to protect my own animals from the "stranger." We don't have animal control where our farm is either. It's a real disadvantage.

I'm not sure how effective it would be. After all, the people who dump the animals obviously don't care about the animals. If they did, they wouldn't dump them off in the first place....

My vote is definitely for shelter. I don't understand this enthusiasm about shooting living creatures.

I would also check with the County Administration who is really responsible to pick it up, Animal Control or the Sheriff. Here, AC comes out if we have the dog tied up or wild animal in a trap and it's during regular hours. Otherwise, it's the sheriff. I have taken many trapped wildcats to the shelter, would never attempt to shoot one because they are actually incredibly hard to kill.

Good luck!
