Further to my post yesterday about my Sebright hen hatching 1 chick I'm very upset to say the little one has just passed away. It was OK yesterday evening but got progressively weaker as the day has gone on. I have removed the little one but I'm worried about Mum now. She has been in a brooder in the house for a week because she is so small I didn't want her all alone in the outside maternity box. How do I help her get over how she is feeling right now ? Should I return her back to the flock or give her a couple of days to process things on her own ? Very upset for her 😪

Return her to the flock, she needs other birds. Keep a eye on her to make sure she doesn't get picked on. She will be sad give her treats and if she likes attention give her some. She may not want to eat so if she likes wet feed as a treat thats good because it's food

Sorry for your loss. :hugs

Many of us will tuck hatchery or feed store "day old" (under a week) chicks under a broody hen that wasn't successful during the night. Most often they are successfully adopted.

Alternatively.. yes, going back to the flock will help her get over her broody hormones and get back to socialization with her mates.

Consider including a link to your prior discussion about the hen and chick. There are many reasons for failure to thrive.. depending on what day the chick passed. Please include all details IF you want help discerning what MAY have happened..
