I noticed that when my roosters feet got wet (All of my chickens have feathered feet & legs) from morning dew or rain it looked like they were hurt. I would see red and thought something happened. When I look closer it seems to be inside the quil. I didn't notice anything on the hens just the roosters. I've asked no one has ideas so haven't known what to do. They are now 3 yrs old. Still do it, only seems to get worse. resently I saw something on you tube about mites so thought maybe that was it. I got pcp and sprayed all chickens and noticed the hens have it too only not as bad or noticeable. 2 weeks after treatment no change. So sprayed them again. Has been 3 weeks and no change. I saw you can dip in vegetable oil. Have done that 1 week every other night so far no change. I cannot find anything that talks about blood or irritation inside the quil. What is it and what do I do?

Can you get some clear pictures of the legs and feet? Are you seeing blood inside the feathers? What is pcp? Can you see any body mites or lice on the chickens or roosters? Leg mites are treated with application of vaseline or oil twice a week for a few weeks until you see improvement. Nustock Cream is also good for leg mites. You can make some with sulfur powder and vaseline.

The 3rd pic is the underneath showing feathers going up leg

I would treat for leg mites for a few weeks. Others may have suggestions for the red areas, but it seems to be a common finding in some feather footed chickens or roosters. Soaking legs in warm Epsom salts for about 15 minutes may help soothe painful legs.

I agree, treat for mites, just to be safe. Some feather footed birds just get irritation around the feather shafts. May be from getting bumped around while moving, or may just be a genetic thing. I had a roo that had issues, particularly during molt. Broken blood feathers, lots if inflammation. I would use coconut oil on his legs, around the feather shafts, and wrap his legs with vet wrap, just tight enough to stay on, with the feathers going in their natural directions. It seemed to help some and the bandaging never bothered him. I have a hen, same breed, who has never had issues with the feathers on her legs/feet.

So I have sprayed with the elector PAP and am now doing the dipping in vegetable oil every other night (going on week two). Is that what I do for leg Mites? Or do I do the Vaseline also or after the oil treatment?
Thank you so much for your help
