I picked up 3 chicks lastnight from a local farm. This little sweetie was chirping so loud this morning. I noticed lastnight one of the other chicks is probably 2-3wks old and I’m guessing this one isn’t a week old?
Any way, the older girl was pecking at this one and not sure if she caused this or she came this way?
Oh man…help😔

Clean it up with warm water and apply antibiotic ointment that doesn’t have any pain relief in it. Chicks are fast healers and if it is still eating and drinking I think it will pull through, though it may only have one eye.

You may have to keep that chick separate for a while to prevent the others from picking at its eye.

Thank you, ok. I’ll do that.🫶🏻

I would continue to gently clean or dab the eye with warm water or saline. It does look like it is from pecking, and the eye is swollen closed. Apply ointment into the eye gently 2-3 times a day. It may take days for the swelling to go down. Chicks can occasionally be born without eyes or with enlarged eyes on one or both sides. With poor vision, you will need to hand feed the chick several times a day. Moistened chick feed and water held up to her beak to tske on her own is what I would recommend. Look for any stuck on poop on the vent, and keep it clean.
