Our local feed stores have basically five types of chicken feed - starter/grower, turkey starter, gamebird starter, finisher and layer feed. No one at either store had any clue about flock raiser. Since the one store carries Purina products I could ask for a special order, but I tried that when my brahmas were young and it didn't work out. The manager was always forgetting to add the special to his weekly order.

If I just had the layer chicks in the brooder I would do the same as I did last time - starter/grower until POL and then onto layer. This time however I also have the meaties in the brooder to worry about. I am not trying to finish them out. Just want them to have a slow natural growth, or as close as a meatie can to that.

Should I just go with the chicken starter/grower until they are ready for layer? I'm kind of concerned that once they are in their coop my brahma girls will get in and raid the feeder and unlike most folks I can't have the amprolium in medicated starter. I would prefer that they go off the medicated starter around 8 weeks for this reason.
