Hi all... I am new to this board and to raising chickens all together. My son brought home three chicks at Easter time so I sorta didn't have a choice in the matter. I was completely unprepared! Anyway, I've grown to really love these feathered little creatures and though I'm sure they are no "special" breed, I AM curious as to what kind they are. The black one "crows" or at least tries his best. I have no idea if the other two are male or female and I don't know how to tell or when I will be able to. I have so many questions but I want to start by posting pics and hearing anyone's thoughts on what breed they are. Possibly chicken mutts? IDK Also, they were bought from some lady who had a whole slew of them and I am unable to speak to her about them at this time. Thanks for any input!

Welcome to the wonderful world of chickens!!! Unfortunately, I am also a bit of a chicken novice so I probably won't be of much help to you but I've spent a ton of time researching breeds/sex info as I have 4 of my own "mystery chicks" so I will try and put what I've learned into practice and venture some guesses--

Your black one looks an awful lot like my jersey giant but mine who is about the same age (hatched late march) has such a large comb already it's beyond obvious it's a roo- if yours is crowing my guess is that it's a he, I had one that attempted to crow at 3 weeks, people told me it was just a cough but as I figured it would, it developed into a full on cock-a-doodle-doo.
As far as your red one, looks like a rhode island red to me, comb looks small so I'd guess pullet.
Your white one is a pretty bird but I have no guess as to what kind or sex it is. :)

Your white one is a Polish or Polish cross. The red one is a Rhode Island Red. Idk about the black one. Welcome to BYC!

I'm thinking the white one looks more like a Houdan. I have a little one. They have that nice V muff. The red..hmmm, a young looking RIR. Black one..not sure, but it looks like a boy.
