What do I need to feed my horse?

I don't ride anymore, and I no longer have a horse. In hindsight it was a dangerous pursuit at times. Horses can be very dangerous if you don't watch it and know what you are doing. These days I'm smart enough to be scared of them, but I don't move so fast anymore.

Yeah, they're definitely dangerous which makes me kind of nervous to own one because if they don't respect you or they get spooked or something just goes wrong, you could be dead unlike with dogs where if they're P.O.'d they usually just bite you once or twice and you can get stiched up. Unless they're crazy and legitimately attack or hunt you down and they can kill but that's usually a different scenario. If a dog doesn't respect you he may growl, bite, whatever or run away but a horse that could be deadly. I think I still want one though but idk. Sometimes I freak out though even on the most calm, deadbroke horse

Neighbor man got his face kicked in bending down behind a horse to pick up his hat. He's messed up but lucky to be alive. Horses are nothing to mess with unless you understand behaviors.

Of course when I was younger I relied on my quick reflexes and the belief that I would live forever. :) My last horse was a percheron mix, so very easy going. I once bought a quarter/Arabian mix that put the fear of horses into me. It was the last horse I ever bought. He left within a year to more experienced people, and I hugged my big fat old horse. She was the perfect horse for me.

Oh wow that's scary! Do you think he was just a bad or disrespectful horse or?

And oh wow, some arabians and wuarters are crazy right? Some are sane though. I feel like I need a big calm horse but then the spook is bigger

There no specific answer because each horse wilhave it's own metabolism .in winter I fed some grain.i fed very little grain in summer .I preferred to feed s small amount Soo my horse would come to me in the field.never make abrupt changes in a horse s diet.

Many people feed grain because they don't have a high quality hay or the horse is working.i love Arabs but I feel they are usually not a good fit for a beginner.i think qaurter horses and Appaloosas are quieter.i love Arabs not bashng them but being a more spirited animal in most cases.they are hard to beat for long trail rides.

He was a big young horse, and I over-estimated my abilities as a horse keeper. I was mostly a pony keeper but always wanted an Arabian. Sometimes dreams don't work out the way you expect them to. That horse went on to be a great performance horse. He just wasn't my speed.

I just got two miniature horses. One is a 2 yo mare. And the other is a 4yo gelding, the mare did not get any grain just hay and pasture. The holdings owner fed him a quart of grain in the morning and a guard in the evening, needless to say he is pretty wide. I want to get him off grain altogether. I been only giving him a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening, should I be giving him more to ween him off? These are the first horses I ever owned

Miniatures generally need no grain except for a treat or for catching. You can just stop it. No need to cut it back. Too much grain, or fresh grass can cause founder in fat horses and ponies, especially the little guys, so I would be careful of too rich of a diet. Founder is a terrible thing that usually is a death sentence.
