What do I need to know about showing?

First thing you need to learn is to lesson to everyone and everything, then strain out the good from the bad information. An APA standard book is a must. If you have a chance go to some shows and find others in your area that show do this. Study the standard, find out who is doing the winning in your breed. Study the standard. Look at the birds doing the winning, talk to people at the shows that have birds there. DO NOT relie on the internet for all your teachings. There is tons of good information on here, BUT for every piece of good advice, there is 10 pieces of advise from people that do not know, or are just trying to make a buck, read the standard. Sort out all the information then go to the show. Do not get discouraged if you lose. Dont get over excited if you win. HAVE FUN, after all it is just chicken showing.

I am so afraid they would ask my oldest a question....she would not stop talking till the fair is over. I considered having them join 4h but for my oldest, bad idea. She is on the autism spectrum and schizophrenic and does not do well in organized groups. Kid two is so busy with school activities evn in summer I don't know when she would participate.
I'm really thrilled my oldest wants to do this because it will make her participate and interact with people. The kids are each required to do 2 hours of barn duty, watering all the birds, sweeping floors, greeting people and answering questions.
Kim has asked if she can put her duck on his harness and walk her. Not sure that would be allowed or OK, but would be interesting.
