What do people expect when they buy fresh eggs?

Most people use eggs up within two weeks... in order to take off the "bloom" you need some kind of sanitizer or soap. Water alone won't effect the eggs.

Now if you leave manure on the eggs.... bacteria will eventually seep through the egg even with the "bloom" on the egg. Your more likely to run into sanitation issues with poopy eggs, than clean ones you just washed with water and a sponge....

I wash all of my eggs with anti-bacterial dish soap. I rinse well and store them large side up in a paperegg carton. Between family and freinds, I never have more than a dozen in the fridge.

When I gather eggs that NEED to be washed, I use the FIT fruit & vegetable wash you can find in the produce section. I figure if it's safe for fresh fruits & veggies, it's bound to be safe for egg washing w/o leaving a detergent taste or smell.

ETA: if it's just a spot here or there on a few eggs, I just use a clean dishcloth dampened with warm water. If they're more than just minimally soiled or somebody has broken an egg in the nestbox, I use the FIT wash.
