i see alot of acronym here and dont understand them all

allot of the bread ones i can put 2 and 2 together and work it out

but i still dont get a few

like:

what is F1, F2 etc

what is Split

and others like that

can some one explain

F1 is first filial generation, F2 is second filial generation, etc. Basically the numbered generation of a breeding project. The chicks from the first cross are F1s. Their offspring would be F2s.

Split is used with recessive genes when they are in a heterozygous state (only one copy present). You know the gene is present because of breeding records, but it cannot be seen in the bird. Black split to lav means the bird is black and carries a hidden copy of lav. In genetic shorthand, it is Lav+/lav.
