What do we have here..........?

That the white one might be a white rock as opposed to a leghorn. My Buff Orpingtons are way bigger than my leghorns, but rocks are bigger than leghorns so.... Maybe a buff Orpington an white rock

Oh, that make sense. Well, I'd like it if you are correct. I'd prefer a white rock, ....I think. Not even really sure if one is better than the other. Only thing I know about leghorns is that they lay a lot of eggs (good), and maybe are flighty (not so good for me). Thanks for your opinion.

rocks lay brown eggs, leghorns lay white (i have seen tinted but i don't think this is right) my experience with the both of them:

leghorns take less feed to make more eggs, have more trouble with comb freeze and don't lay well in the winter. also we do eat our birds and leghorns don't have much meat. they are flighty but if you keep them in a quiet place they do relax.

white rocks are one of my favorite breeds, nice brown eggs that get alittle lighter in color with the age of the hen, meat quality is pretty good on these birds. they seem to keep laying in the winter but they do slow down a little. add some light and usually this problem is fixed. my white rocks lay much bigger eggs than my leghorns.... and white rocks can go broody (if you want chicks)

I have a hen that I think she is a leghorn white rock mix...and she is awesome! She's not as big as a rock, but not as small as a leghorn. She lays nearly white eggs almost everyday usually around 65g

there she is...she might just be a leghorn, but she's larger bodied than leghorns are...anyway she laid just the same through winter, although she seems to have slowed a little now. She was a "used hen" off Craigslist. So she is no spring chicken, but she would lay through the winter 2 or 3 days in a row and then skip a day. Now it's every other day. She used to be my star, but she can't compete with the pullets that are laying their fluffy behinds off. Especially the Buff Orpington! Her pullet eggs were store egg sized, she laid 3 normal sized eggs. All the rest have been monsters? Almost 3 ounce monsters!

love those giant eggs! Anyway I figure it is almost time to eat the leghorn mix and we will once the leghorn chicks we have in the brooder are laying. I don't like to get rid of a layer unless there is a already a new one to take her place. I also figure every year I'll get a few new BO and keep those pretty changed out. I guess I could just keep a breeder pen I BO since I know one of the chicks we have now is a rooster...they were straight run and we got so lucky. Got 5, and only one is a rooster. Got 6 straight run leghorns, but I'm starting to wonder if they are straight run at all as I see no rooster signs in the whole bunch...which is alright I guess. Can always use more hens...and less roosters I guess.
I got a food dehydrator because I have a huge old White Rock rooster that I know we can't keep forever, and that he will be old and tough...so I figure I can make him into jerky since he's halfway there already. His feet look like they belong on a dinosaur...
