I suspect they are a little more carefully selected than most barnyard mixes, but I agree they sometimes sound like it.

Plenty of hatcheries sell Easter Eggers under one name or another. They are supposed to lay blue or green eggs (although some lay brown anyway), but they can be any color and the body types can differ too.

I'm starting to see hatcheries selling Brown Eggers under a variety of names, and I think it's going the same direction: any color and some chance of variation in body type. Rainbows look to me like dual purpose, maybe selected to be a little meatier than many other current dual purpose chickens, with little or no selection for feather color.

Hmm, I wonder when the hatcheries will start selling White Eggers? They could just mix up some breeds to get varied feather colors, stick a fancy name on them, and then we could get puzzled trying to identify them too

Delaware is one of the possible breeds I could have received.

The one in the last pic I think may be a cuckoo marans…I can’t tell the difference in feather pattern though.
its feet are really white with a slight pink tint compared to the others.
