They're great for meat, & eggs. Also chickens make for some interesting crosses when bred together.

I prefer chickens. Ducks are too messy and high maintenance for my circumstances although they are really cute.

Me too!
I had chickens first, really like them, and don't want to set up separate digs for ducks, cute as they are. Especially those call ducks, adorable!
And so far I've managed to not get a trio of geese, because again, separate housing and more work.

I find I can bond with most chickens with food and time in their company, even if broody raised and not at all human imprinted. Ducks were never very interested in hanging out with me even if I did have food! Maybe I just got unlucky because I didn't get day-old ducklings.
