What do you all think?...

Work on getting them to eat out of your hand, and after a while maybe try picking them up. Ours used to fluff up after we let them down, maybe they felt it very undignified, but even the moodiest girl has stopped that, after being picked up and held for a minute or so every day. This is good to learn too so you can inspect them for health reasons.

That's what I mean I have a nice dry mud section haven't seen if they like wet mud has only had them a day and my area is kinda warm

Yes I tried getting them to build there confidence on eating out my hand as they seem very scared specially my Sussex the guy I bought them off must not of handle them properly

Keeping chickens can be as complicated or as uncomplicated as you want it to be. I have had chickens for many years, and very few of them have eaten out of my hand. That does not mean they have not been handled properly, it just means that those particular birds were not raised to be pets. Even if the guy you bought them from had handled them, they very likely would still be skittish around you. Chickens are prey animals. They instinctively run or shy away from anything new. They do no know you. They are in a new place, different surroundings. Chickens don't do change well. They will be more comfortable around you with time. If you just sit in the pen with them quietly, and don't make any moves toward them, they will learn that you don't mean to harm them. Bring some treats with you and just drop them by your feet. Eventually they'l come closer. They don't necessarily need a "health diet". Just regular feed will be fine. I'm not sure where you read that chickens like to roll in mud, but I've not experienced that. The most important thing to do is relax and enjoy your flock. As long as they have food, water, shelter from the elements and a secure place to sleep at night, they'll be fine.

Yes I think chickens are slow to adapt to change or learn what is safe. We put up a pole for them to perch on and it took them maybe 2 weeks before they realized it was something for them to sit on. My girls don't really like being petted or touched but they will eat out of my hand, especially if they know its a tasty treat! But they are all different! Plus they are brand new to their surroundings so they are probably a little frazzled. Be patient ;)
