Reminds me of Big Bang Theory.

I called my grandmother Gramma while my children called her G.G. (Great Gramma). Since she has passed away and I now have a grandchild, I'm now Gramma. My mom on the other hand is known as Granny and G.G. My sister has also claimed ownership of Gramma for when she has grandkids.

We go with the name that gives us the fondest memories. It also sounds better in public that "That crazy woman who is my Mom's mom."

nonna is my mothers mom
my kids call my birth mom Marmee
my kids call my step mom gramma

and they call DH's mom gamma susan lol

DH is still confused why we call my moms mom nonna.. lol men...
