What do you do to keep your meat birds on a natural diet?

I know in summer lots do rotational grazing. Some even plant specific plants for their birds. But what about in the winter? People have suggested letting them go in our family garden in Autumn, but that wont last all winter? I'm wanting to research and get ideas/suggestions as much as i can before buying birds. I can't really seem to find many answers though, all say to give them commercial food.

You could go for the Organic crumble feed.

CornishX and Freedom Rangers require more in their diet than just grass, veggies, and bugs can provide. (As with pretty much any modern breed.)
